E34 harness w/e12 manifold question

Will an e34 injector harness work/fit under a e12 intake manifold?

The box will not fit. I would suggest the 88 528e harness.

or take the wiring out of the box and wrap it in some sort of loom for protection, thats what i did with my e34 525 harness on my m88/3

I'm currently running the b35 fuel rail in an l-jet manifold by using the l-jet injector retainers on the bottom and the b35 metal clips on the top. This did not require any machining. I may have had to flip the rail from its normal orientation.

That looks really good. I've heard these manifolds flow better than the B34. Are the runners on the intake a direct match to the b34 head? And can you use a b34 throttle body? I have a b35 intake manifold I wanted to use but then realized the difference in the shape of the ports.

That's a B35. I have some pictures on there where I compare the two intakes side by side, as well as with a tape measure. I had the 320 runners on it, which are longer.

The TBs are not compatible having a different bolt spacing and, if I remember correctly, the older throttle body was slightly bigger. Might have been an illusion, though.

The L-Jet manifold ports are considerably smaller and since B35s aren't known for breathing up top, I decided to rip it all off and go with the B35 manifold. I'm not sure if that was the best idea, but I was planning on a turbo. Plans have changed.

The old manifold sure looks cool, though. ;)

Yes I noticed how much smaller the ports are. I wonder if there's enough material to open them up a bit to match the b34 or b35? Do yo happen to have any flow #'s for the L-jet & b34 manifolds?

When you say flip the rail, do you mean have the FPR at the firewall side?
I would really like to see pictures of this setup.

Scarey013, I have spoken with you about this before, thats an Ljet fuel rail and Jag FPR correct?
There is an E12 528i at a local yard, but I just don't remember the FPR end of the rail looking like that.

I have a picture on one of my computers. I'll try to dig it up or take another today. Yes, the fpr is on the firewall.

There are two different e12 fuel rails. One ia the type pictured above, the other is brazed 8mm tubing.

Yep, that is a later E12 fuel rail. The early versions were multi-piece with hose in between. Unsightly and ugly.

The Jag FPR was a 3.5 bar off of an older six-cylinder, but I can't remember the year. The pipe coming off of it actually worked really well as far as locating the return hose and it screwed right into the fuel rail.

I'm not sure that I would personally mess with redrilling the ports for the injectors, as watercooled VW Vanagon injectors are exactly the same style and shape as the original E12 injectors, yet high-impedence with matching flow numbers for a stock B35.

This, of course, is irrelevant if you need something that flows more. I do know that there are companies that can build these to spec, though, so all is not lost. There are also clips available that allow you to use stock injectors and attach them to the fuel rail. They're about $35/piece, though.

Is there enough meat to port them? To an extent, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I believe username lito dynoed an older manifold and found it to produce less power than the Motronic manifold. I believe the results can be found if you search under his name.

Well I looked at that 528i again yesterday, and it was indeed the L shaped rail with the screw on FPR.
I was out of time however and couldnt take it.
This is what you want for running the old style manifold, it just looks right.

The whole injector issue is one for another day.

Yes, there is. It is a good idea to port match them when running a B35 head. I port matched mine to a ported B35 head and had no issues with material thickness, but be wary of where you remove material and how much you remove.

After unsuccessfully trying to find my old pictures, I dug out my camera and took new ones. They show, not very well, that the injectors are of the two o-ring type and are secured by the normal clips at the top and the large o-ring (e12 type) hold down at the bottom. The sealing o-rings at the bottom are also present. Because the fuel rail is not directly secured to the manifold, it is not as safe as it can be, but it's better than nothing and gives me better injector options than the L-Jet type. Ideally I'll weld up hold down brackets in the future, before I turbo it.

if i remember correctly the small runners on the e12 setup could be swapped with the e21 m10 runners and they were larger. but its been forever since i've dealt with e12 stuff.

they are definitely a beautiful setup though. i've thought about smoothing and polishing a e21 intake setup for a custom look.
