Boost with 10:1 compression?
Boost with 10:1 compression?
I've been thinking about how easy it would be to turbocharge the M60B40. Wouldn't take much to get plenty of power out of a four valve V8, but I don't really want to open the motor up. I'm getting lazy in my old age.
Anybody run any kind of boost on a 10:1 motor? Any input?

I like this idea.Boost and high compression is the ultimate for street driving, power all the time.
What fuels are available to you? If setting up for e85 is not ridiculous ( you mentioned lazy) then that CR isn't remotely an issue, but I understand the ghey factor that particular fuel comes with as well.
Regardless do it Anyway, this would be one application where a rear mount would be acceptable IMO.

The superchargers seem to run about 6 psi, non intercooled. Pretty weak suckage for almost $6k. If I go for a brand new Garrett 3788R this whole thing would probably cost around $2200. I think stock injection would be fine here with a RRFPR. Rear mount would mean no compromise with A/C or packaging.
Pump gas is a concrete requirement. Sounds like a non issue though. I would absolutely not be boosting above 8 psi. I bet it hauls serious ass at 6. I've grown up enough to be happy with that.
Only real problem is going to be sneaking this past the wife.

I've always had an eye for the remote mount systems. When I was 16 and sporting my first car,a 93 Talon (non tsi model this time) I was hanging out with a buddy and his cavalier club and one of the cav's had a remote mount up under the trunk. That was just insane to me. I dreamt of doing it on my 91 Golf, then my 85 GTI. Never had the scratch to do it. This will be interesting to see if you follow through! Good luck! I bet the 540iT will be quick.
I'm thinking about running a separate lube system for the turbo. Maybe two quart capacity with a small oil cooler and a little pump for circulation. Probably a bad idea but I have been known to go out of my way to avoid doing something correctly.
The e34 has the battery and fusebox under the rear seat. Easy access to switched power.

There's a few guys that are running boosted M6x. The one across the pond in the Volvo is putting out over 640HP, if I remember reading correctly.
There's also a couple guys on BF that are boosting them, or in the process.
I'm really curious about this too, because I'm at the point of diminishing returns, as well as the 'no turn back' stage of my swap. https://plus.google.com/photos/11608302 ... cP7zajtjAE
In reality, at least for me, a boosted M52 might be a better (and comparatively bolt-in) option. That isn't an option, for obvious reasons, for you.
Stick with it Dan, you can do it...

Cool swap! Engine is huge for only 4.0L!scarey013 wrote: I'm really curious about this too, because I'm at the point of diminishing returns, as well as the 'no turn back' stage of my swap. https://plus.google.com/photos/11608302 ... cP7zajtjAE
i/we had a similar idea a while back, which hasnt taken offturbodan wrote:I would have to do a rear mount system. I could cannibalize the spare tire well and stuff it all in there. Then its all plumbing.
yet.plan was to fit a couple juckyard 2L turbo units(X2)
to keep the cost down.
the only problem i can foresee at present(other then $$ and time) is turbo sizing-being so far from the heat source.
