turbo e28 172 whp 208 ft-lbs :( please help
took my car to finally get tuned, ended up with 172whp and 208 tq at 5 psi , we couldnt get it to do more, the afrs didnt want to stay in the 12s it either went into the 14s or 11s no in between, me and my tuner were stumped and frustrated, he thinks my turbo is too small, its a t4 turbonetics 62-1 with a .68 a/r hot side.
the car was hitting 5 psi and then would drop to 2 psi by redline.
im so frustrated im willing to pay anything to get my car running right at 7 psi...i have a 10 psi spring in my wastegate..please help[/code]

That compressor is NOT too small. It sounds more like a wastegate/ boost control issue combined with a crappy tune. Is the guy helping you an actual tuner or someone who just knows how to operate a dyno? This is with megasquirt right? Do you have a datalog and msq file for the pull? Also, what are you doing for boost control?
He's actually a well known BMW tuner down here in Miami he's tuned e30 m20 turbos and s52 turbos as well, Im just running the wastegate spring no boost controller, I can send you my msq file and datalogs if you want to take a look at them. I started at 139 whp and with every pull I'd gain 10 whp until I plateaued at 172 whp and it wouldn't move from there.

If he thinks that turbo is maxed out then
that person is probably NOT a good tuner.
Makes sense right?
I think you probably have a 5psi spring.
Get a boost controller.
Do a boost leak test.
Perhaps you have a leak at the begi or you have Miller piggyback?
I've heard bad things from the miller
biggy back.

im running ms2, and have a 10psi spring i put in, anybody have a good m30b34 turbo ignition map? i want to plug it in and run ve analyzer on mlv to fix my ve table
i ran the vacuum line off the wastegate today ran to 13 psi at 3518 rpm in 2nd gear with only 74% throttle (according to datalog) it felt just as fast at that 3500 than it did with the vacuum line on at 5500 so the turbos definitely not being maxed out
need a boost controller
question is wouldn't i make more than 172 whp at 5-6 psi tho?
looking at the dyno graph i made peak power at 4500 and hp stayed flat till 5200 where it slowly dropped to 150 at 5500.

If your tooner is worth his salt you won't need anyone else's timing map. The map I sent you should me more than satisfactory if everything else in your tune is correct. The fact he can't get the afrs right even in cruise is suspect. Post up the dyno plot and you can send me your msq and logs to bdenton180sx@yahoo.com and I'll loo and see if I see anything grievously wrong.
After taking a look at your msq here are a few points
- The fuel VE table is really bad. It looks terribly spot tuned and isn't smooth at all. Take a look at the VE table example in the MS thread to get an idea of how smooth it should look. You have more fuel at 70kpa than you do at 160 kpa. Think about that - does that make sense? The tooner seems to think so.
-When doing your initial tuning, turn off all your acceleration enrichment to get your base map tuned correctly.
-Timing map is downright scary. Again, not sure if this was from your tooner, but I'd suggest finding a new one who knows what hes doing.
Seriously, you need to slow down and take baby steps. Both those VE and timing maps need to be done over from scratch. With the fuel and timing maps that have been posted on this board by various experienced members, you should be able to get the car running well enough to use Megalogviewer and use the VE analyzer to get the NA region tuned well. Do that first before even starting on the boosted region. And I would not trust that guy to tune my lawn mower.

thanks brad, i tried pluging in your ve and spark table but the car wont idle with them, i try them again and try to log and see whats going on and fix it ill use your tables and play with it from there, should i move the acceleration wizard more the read off the tps its at 15% right now yopu have it at 90 on your tune
There are likely enough differences in our setups you will need to tune your own idle. What are you doing for idle control? I am using the OE IACV and have my idle tuned using that. Also, my idle timing advance is controlled by using the idle timing advance under the Extended tab. Like I said, there is a lot more to a tune than just plugging in values from a table.
Don't even mess with Accel enrichment right now, just set the mapdot and tpsdot values really high to disable them (or set the PW adder to 0 across the board). I like to just change the Xdot values so I can keep my PW settings and "turn it back on" easily.

What happened with this? I am experiencing a little of the same and am interested in how yours turned out.
I am preparing a thread simply as a build thread that will cover my issues, but I'm interested to see if you locked onto the problem.
I know I need a boost controller and am dealing with that- but what else did you end up doing?
Thanks
