Fuel COnsumption

Post by tranmkp »

E23 - 745 - 100k

runs flawlessly. NO issues other than it gets 10mpg in city. Highway 25mpg.

20k since last valve adjust. all rubber under hood is new. FPR is older but is dry when vac removed.

I am at a loss.

Do you keep your foot out of it in the city? A wise man once said that's the key to better fuel mileage with turbos. Staying off boost could be a start...

:haul:

PS: Damn nice looking engine bay!

Driving cycles are much more variable and complex than you can reasonably for into the simple city/highway classification. 10 mpg is bad but if you've got a lot of traffic lights, congestion or hills its plausible. My driving cycle is 50/50 city highway and I get equal mileage per leg or even slight better city than highway. My 540i/6 gets the same mileage to and from work as I did in my turbo 528 and is only slightly worse than my stock 528e. The three cars should get vastly different mileage but for the same driving cycle they're all very similar.

If it runs well and gets 25 on the highway its probably in fine shape.

I am beginning to think my odometer is off - it is making a clicking stripped gear sound.
