As many on here know, I do engine R&D for a living. I have access to some pretty sweet tools and software at work. One of those pieces of software is GT Power. It's a 1-D engine simulation software used by almost all manufacturers use is at the OE level for engine and after treatment modeling. I have some models generated for current production engines (proprietary) that we use to test different turbo matches, test the addition of EGR and anything else the client of job may need us to do.
Since I have access to this I want to build a model of an M30, and know that it could really be a beneficial tool to those that like these engines.
At one point I had an excel sheet that had various cam profiles but cannot find it. I will need this data to build into the model as well as any cylinder head flow data for (preferably) a b35 head (and b34 if available). If anyone is able to provide any of this data, please contact me via PM or if you have files to send, you can send them to bdenton@swri.org. There are other pieces of the puzzle that I will have to guesstimate such as burn durations and CA50 locations at full load, but I can estimate them close enough that I think I can generate a really good model. This would give me the ability to change cam profiles, turbos, manifolds etc and look at their impact of performance, which could be really useful. Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to contribute data or has ideas for things you may want me to simulate.
M30 Engine Model Simulation - Help me find data
I have collected some internet figures (can't vouch for accuracy).
The M30 cam chart http://www.hyakushiki.net/newbmw/m30cams.gif
Firstfives.org M30 head FAQ gives this data:
528i cam: 7.928 lift 260 duration
530i cam: 7.422 lift 272 duration
2800 cam: 7.116 lift 264 duration
2500 cam: 6.850 lift 260 duration (also 3.0 carbureted)
Somewhere (may have been Metric Mechanic) I saw this head flow data for an M10 E12 head which should be similar to a B34 head.
