The plunger length is adjustable on the brake light switch. You shorten or lengthen it to fit after installation.

Just got back from a second shake-down drive. After the 1st one we deemed everything good, so all that was left was interior trim. That's all done now.
Done. Complete. Finished.
The transmission feels FANTASTIC. Super easy to shift/smooth. Snick-snick-snick. The clutch feels great too. That 13lbs flywheel is...wow. You gotta be real careful blipping the throttle because it will rev up quick.

Drove Maytag into work this morning. Recall that our shakedown drive on Friday was all about 5 miles, so I was a little nervous about driving 20+ miles downtown.
Damn thing drives like a charm. No vibrations, nothing flew off (that I noticed anyway ), and I didn't die. Shifts smooth as silk, idles perfectly, and pulls as hard as you could expect from an Eta motor that has no perf upgrades. I thought it was a lovely car to drive before. Now it's lovelier.
I probably am going to regret choosing the 3.46 diff though. Eventually I'm going to put in a 3.25, put a different head on supporting a higher rev-range, or just sell the damn car to someone else who can finish it :-)

The boot that came with my 5-speed kit is pretty beat up. The leather's all there, but it's pretty crunchy.
I decided to give one of the eBay E28 boots a try; $12.99 shipped from UK:
Not bad, actually. I think I'll try gluing it to the frame the way the original was so it's not so puffy around the base, but the leather is nice and supple.
