Hello everyone, this is my first post onto this forum and I just bought my first E28 last week. Its a burgenrot '84 BMW 528e. Now I'm posting in this section because the OG owner had Korman bolt a tubro, stage 2 spec head(Port polish, titanium springs, dual valve springs etc), 280 schrick cams and a bunch of other parts onto the engine in 88 after he blew up the original engine. Is anyone else currently running a korman turbo setup as I have a few questions about the system. IE turbo, power numbers, anything to look for.

What motor is this? i have a friend who just recently parted his m30 korman project. I'm sure he could help you out a bit.

Its a m20 from what i can tell and from what wiki said its a m20b27. I have over $14,000 in receipts from korman. Its weird because its also has a new motor too installed in 88. So idk if they replaced it with another b27 too. But its a m20 turbo with a water to air intercooler. Massive cams and a handful of other goodies. My instagram has a video of it loping too. I also dont know if a cam can change displacement of the motor.

I don't know much about the Korman system specifically, but I can tell you that a cam will never ever change the displacement of a motor. You can change what's known as the "effective compression ratio" with different cam choices, but not the displacement.d0wse wrote:I also dont know if a cam can change displacement of the motor.
Have you tried contacting Korman directly with your questions? Since they built it they would likely be best equipped to answer your questions. Any questions about power output are likely best answered by strapping it to a good dyno assuming that it's running correctly.

lol I have been meaning to get around and calling them about the modifications. I do fear that being its 30 years old they maybe lost as to what this is and I also fear that whatever work was put into this motor is like a one off kind of build. I have yet to find another kit regarding the M20B27 too. It seems to be an exclusive m30 thing. The car needs floorboards and I've been putting in far more time trying to solve that problem. Car also has an idle issue but it maybe a mixture of the cams and possible vacuum leak. Thanks though guys.

A couple more questions. Why is branded through korman as their turbo, did they buy the rights or something. But also I have a massive amount of head work and cams etc. does anyone have input on that mixed with forced induction. Am I looking at alot more hp?

I'm pretty sure that I've seen the car you bought.
Is it running, drivable, and functional?

Companies do things like that all the time. Korman might have been a "certified installer" or some such thing for the Cartech kits back when these cars were new. It's nothing nefarious, very few companies have the resources to develop a kit like this for a specific platform. If one is available, why would a company want to spend the time and money to re-invent the wheel? I mean, I suppose if a customer wanted a truly one-off kit they'd happily take their money to do it, but those dollars start adding up quickly.

Alright sweet. I have from the orignial owners sales receipt to the last owners stuff. car has easily double the money in either upgrades to preventitive maintence. It has a staggering 14.5 thousands in the motor, i may list it later this weekend and see what you guys think.
If you're thinking about the car being sold in upstate new york in ballston spa then yes. If not then it would be cool to see another one.
Aside from the apprent lack of floorboards the thing runs like a stroker. It has alot of working gauges, the temp and gas gauge are weird. Now i know this isnt the right place but is there something quick to check? Thanks guys

Lol brian i presume. I saw you're from ballston spa haha. Yeah it was parked at ali's garage. I drove past it a month and a half ago coming home from the Iron roost. small world. Everythings cool except for the sunroof, two back windows and a few gauges. The floors are in poor shape but for what i got it for it was worth it. If you have one or know anything about these cars id appreciate local help.

So update. I pulled the afm i think it is what it is called. Whatever you mount the air filter to and there was oil sitting in my intake. Now it should be noted since I have a turbo is this a bad sign that the turbo is gone?
Also found a small silver MSD box with a set of wires to the distributer and to the ecu. Also the there is a vaccum line. Anyone with a turbo understand this?

Well this might be the biggest thread bump. I've had so much life stuff since october of last year but I started tinkering on the car again. Things I have noticed is that idle is terrible. I replaced the gas, tried cleaning out the ICV and it helps. It keeps the idle normal for longer but eventually starts to fight. Im moving a post I had to this thread because I felt because its turbo that it would belong here.

I've got literally every receipt this car has ever had dating back to the original owners purchase, the second owners work and now what I've done. So please help me, im new to these cars and I want this one to not end up in a scrap heap.

I've got a lifter tick, the car idles but it idles awful from what I can tell and theres rust but I'm desperately trying to keep this poor thing out of the scrap yard. If anyone here can help I'm trying to get this thing road ready by the end of september. Thanks!

Look for vacuum leaks,fouled plugs,even the dipstick not sealing. Try some techron injector cleaner with a low tank for a hot dose.

Ok ok. Is there a good "Home brewed" way to tackle a vaccum leak? Can I try the "unplug a vaccum line and pump it full of cigarette smoke" trick? Visual check of the vacuum hoses should suffice. you can spray starting ether around suspected leaks, if idle increases(due to ether getting sucked in),you have a leak. Be careful with ether, you can set your car on fire.
My guess is clogged injector, but could be a lot of things.

The best thing to do is buy a bunch of new vacuum hose and systematically replace all of the existing, old hose.

What this guy said.. vacuum leaks suck.. might as well tackle them all... more likely than not though it is probably the hose that goes through the ICV.
If not as previously stated it could be injectors... spark plugs... etc..
