Alright guys, I'm ordering my turbo on Friday. I'd like to see what kind of turbo everyone is running and what you think of it. Obviously you can do your math calculate where about you want to hit boost and what turbo would be a good match, but I'd like to get some testimonials.
Mainly:
How fast you're getting in to boost
How steady your power band is
Any issues or complaints
Any benefits
My motor is a US B34 all stock. I'm looking to be in boost at around 3-3500 rpm or lower. Current turbo I'm looking at is
61.3 /82 mm Compressor Wheel
62 /67.8 mm Turbine Wheel
Thank you as always!
What turbo should I buy?

I'm wringing out a stock kkk27 from bmw m106. It's been a lot of fun,but I'm sure there are better.

Aren't there quite a few variables besides just turbo selection?
As the previous poster mentioned, manifold, but what about intercooler, injectors, fuel management, exhaust, and boost levels?
I am not an FI expert, but really it all works as a complete system, and some answers to the other questions will tell you what turbo size you want for maximum efficiency, which will give you either best drivability or maximum possible power output...

Re: What turbo should I buy?
You would be better served by giving more information on what the rest of your set-up is.
There are plenty of people running stock m30s on boost but there are numerous factors that dictate when boost comes on: Compression ratio, manifold, intercooler, A/R, inducer size, exducer size, journal/ball bearing, exhaust (size +/- cat), transmission, differential ratio....
My advice is to look through the dyno library and find a torque/horsepower curve that suits your needs and use that set-up as a guide for your own build.

Re: What turbo should I buy?
I understand all the factors that come in to play when you are looking for a turbo. Manifold plays a huge role, I'm just doing a merged manifold style like Brad did. So I know it's not going to be as efficient as say Otis's manifold.
To be honest I'm more concerned with quality and longevity at this point. I guess I was more looking for personal experiences with turbos that are journal/ball bearing and water/oil or just oil cooled.

Re: What turbo should I buy?
I'm sure Todd would be more than happy to supply you with a great turbo in exactly the right size. I've got one of his, and it certainly doesn't wait till 3500rpm to build boost.
I'm mostly posting so my sig is in this thread.
