Clutches

Post by JonE30 »

OK, I'm nearing a point in my build where I'm looking for a clutch, that's going to hold. Worse case scenario I can take a Tilton and get a flywheel machined. What is currently available for the M30 that is going to be actually capable of hold 600 ft-lbs? Everything I've been able to find has been in the 400 range and I'm not wanting to buy something that will just give up the ghost on me after a few passes down the track.

Honestly I bet clutchmasters would build something strong enough. I have a FX-300 which isn't up to what you're asking but I know they offer stronger clutches. Shoot Todd a PM see if he can get clutchmasters to build something strong enough.

I doubt any single disc clutch will hold 600rwhp. Maybe 600bhp. I can quote you a twin disc.

Aren't they rated at torque though?

Wow , I missed the 600 hp somehow.
What about the rest of the drivetrain?
I destroyed a driveshaft punching the clutch with only 350hp.

This is probably the best single disc combo, but only takes around 530ft-lbs

Here you can pick parts for 2-3 disc setup:

This twin disc setup takes close to 600ft-lbs but is quite expensive but comes with a machined flywheel.

530tq rated is all you need.
Even at 500tq @ 7,000rpm redline is 666hp

520tq @ 6,500rpm is 643hp.

My brothers S38 turbo has a Southbend clutch and that holds 650lb/ft just fine! You need a strong leg though.....
