Crank trigger angle question

Post by bornagain »

Hey guys ,

So I'm back in the game, got a new engine for the 3 series.... Only problem. Is it wouldn't start and long story short, checked my timing and it was way off, I'm using the factory crank sensor and I didn't think there was any difference but I'm using the 735i dampner. My old setting for trigger angle was 82 degrees, which was in the ball park for my physical calculation of "holding crank wheel to cover plate measurement" to get it running this time around the setting is 209 degrees....WTF any ideas why the discrepancy(and that's verified with timing light cranking 0 degrees and at 15 running (my timing light does have waste spark mode too so no offset issues.)

Some of the very early crank triggers were different. I can't remember the angle. Peter Florance knows. I'll forward this thread to him.
