Update. Turbo never smoked again but the 2pc intake manifold split again and was leaking. Took a few weeks but I bought a LS6 factory manifold and got it installed last night. Hoping to be able to get some miles on it now.

I finally have some seat time with everything seemingly working properly. I ordered 80lb injectors today because the 50lbers are maxed out by 5500rpm. Engine feels very strong. Much stronger than anything I have ever driven. Looks like it's going to be exactly what I envisioned. :D

That's awesome. Do you have plans on dyoning once you install the new injectors?

What was the reason behind fitting the smaller stroke crank?

Do you plan raising the rpm ceiling?

At what boost are these turbos in their efficiency range?

I wanted the short stroke for fun. super safe rev limit is 7000 instead of 6500. Turbo is happy in the 8-15psi range for this motor.

Nice weather this morning (78F). I went to a new dyno shop that specialize in LS motors but both of their tuners were absent so I was on my own. AFR in the mid 11s and timing is probably close. Boost not super smooth and tapered a little or it would have made more HP. That being said I am super happy with the result. The way this engine makes power is exactly what I wanted. Will be bumping the rev limit a few hundred rpm since it is so happy at 7000rpm. Plenty of room for more boost if I wanted but highly unlikely since the engine will make a lot more power at the dragstrip in cooler temperatures.

It's time for that engine to get transplanted into my chassis.

Thanks Dan. I spoke to the cam designer and he thinks I am missing a little power at 6500rpm. It should peak there, not be flat. I was able to finally plot the required airflow across the turbo compressor map and the turbo is undersized. Compressor is operating at 68% efficiency above 5500rpm. Both the compressor wheel and the turbine need to be a little bigger. They are currently 67mm billet and P trim. This winter I'll go to 72mm billet and Q trim. The 72mm will be operating at 78% above 5500rpm. This will really help the top end. I think 535+ at a solid 10psi should be easily attainable.

Todd was kidding about the turbo not being hooked up. It's a nice flat power band, just thought it would make north of 600 being an LS engine.
What psi was that dyno run..?

It's a baby motor. 4.8L with big bore, 9.5CR at a little less than 10psi. It's making exactly what it should. About 20-23rwhp per psi of boost. 5 more psi and it's way over 600rwhp but I doubt I'll ever do that. My intention is to optimize the current setup and tweak the boost a tiny bit. It drives so great I doubt I'll ever chase a dyno number.
