So can the K27 be over oiled?
Here is the scenario – car is running on a stock wiring harness, Begi, K27 with 35r wheel recently rebuilt by Pure Turbos, TCD chip, little A/W intercooler inline from 12:00 re-clocked turbo to Throttle body (so charged air goes north past the manifold takes a 90deg turn directly to the TB with the A/W intercooler on top of the valve cover). Oil Supply like is a braided line with a banjo fitting with the correct BMW banjo bolt and washers.
1st I cant see the turbo well enough to pinpoint the leak. But it starts to smoke (oil visibly on the outside of the hot side of the turbo) so i replace an aluminum fitting reducer setup with the banjo bolt thinking that was the issue- its tight now, so doesn’t seem to be the issues.
I am going to put car on ramps, support motor, remove the motor mount, run car and see what I get. I have dye in the oil so I should be able to pinpoint it. I am thinking it could defiantly still be the oil supply line leaking on the backside- maybe a scuffed surface. It could be a cracked housing where the inlet attaches.
It is mid-way up the turbo and it happens as the oil heats up and as RPM (oil pressure) is applied it gets worse.
This is a new turbo with maybe 10 miles on it. I had a 3 year go after MegaSquirt and finally reverted back just to get this thing going.
I have read that some variations of the K27/24 family have a reducer ball in either the oil supply housing (kind of like an oil cooler thermostat) or in the turbo housing itself.. so that makes me wonder if I am pushing too much oil into the turbo causing it to seep.
Any Thoughts on this?
thanks!

Re: Over Oil K27? Oil Leaking Turbo
so for those interested... I spoke to Pure Turbos again and Chuck suggested to put an inline pressure oil pressure gauge an it and see if it is >60psi - he knows that a lot of garrets stuff will not run with an aftermarket line with no restrictor... I still think I have a drip somewhere but I also think this may be an issue.
Ill update with findings to complete the thread when I get the setup.

I've been reading alot about Holsets and how they require a inline restrictor, but never heard of a k27 needing one. I know this doesn't help much, but I'm interested and curious to hear if you find a resolution.
Good luck.

Re: Over Oil K27? Oil Leaking Turbo
I've had an oil pressure gauge on several m30 based motors. On mine i see 120psi@4500rpm when cold (Florida cold), when warmed up it idles about 15-20psi, and climbs up to about 40psi with 15/50 mobil one synthetic. So take it easy when cold.
Re: Over Oil K27? Oil Leaking Turbo
So I removed the turbo last night and found that the oil inlet cap piece is cracked- I assume because aluminum and cast iron have very different expansion properties.
I am still installing a small pressure gauge on the oil filter housing inline with the oil supply line- as I think there maybe an issue here as well.
But at least the oil on the outside of the housing is diagnosed.... Not sure how I will fix it as I can't get the euro part here in NA.... A weld will hold for a bit- maybe jb weld and try to get someone in Europe to ship me one.

Got the inline gauge- 60psi coldish.... 90* today so I bet that number will go up a bit when it's actually cold.
Jb weld to fix the leak- still would like a replacement from Germany though on the oil inlet piece.
