Drag slicks on an E28

Post by Jelmer538i »

Who has ever put drag slicks on a E28? We want to race my brothers E28 turbo on the 1/4 mile but with the current Federal 595 RS-R semi slicks it breaks loose in 1st and 2nd gear.

So what size slicks would fit? It has coilovers on it so we can raise the rear end for more space.

26x8x15 on an e30 M3 wheel fits perfectly. 26x8.5x15 is a tight squeeze.

Thanks Todd.

We are now running a 255 wide tire on a E34 M5 wheel but with a low setting it is rubbing on the arches.
Do you think a 26/10-15 would fit if we raised it a bit and proper offset rims or is it just to high/tall to fit a E28 wheel housing?

No chance on 26x10. Max is 26x8.5 and they still rub.

This is my euro 535i with rolled and stretched fenders. 15x8.5 wheel with ideal offset and 26x8.5 slick. Rubs the flat part of the fender way up high.

Thanks! Next week we will try it on the strip. I doubt the slicks will be in on time because of the customs. Other wise we don't have to try becasue it hooks up in 3rd with the semi slicks we have on it now.

Friday we tryed it on the dragstrip! The drag slicks are still not in but we used a set of old race slicks. We did 3 runs:

13.2 sec.
12.7 sec
13.3 sec

Not to bad for the first time with no traction in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear! In Oktober there is another drag race event here so let's hope the drag slicks are in and the weather is fine.

How much power did this car make on the dyno?

Last time it was dyno'd it made 480,5 whp and 545wlb/ft @ 13psi boost. Now we are running 14 psi.
Maybe this winter it will get a bigger ball bearing turbo.
