Auto Trans issues with boosting an eta?

Post by Rubbissh »

So long term, I plan to turn my eta into a FI build. I have an 88 528e, auto trans. Does anyone know if i will have transmission issues due a rise in power/torque above stock? I know these trans are relatively fragile, would they put up with a mild boost? Thank you in advance.

It'll be fine.

Not true. The first rebuilt tranny in my 533it lasted several years at 7-10psi. This was with 3k stall tq conv from TCD. Multiple burnouts & 'spirited runs' at barely legal speeds. The first (used tranny) in my 745 lasted 2 years before the A clutches died (expected). Since upgrading, its been solid for another 2yrs apx. It also has a 3k stall.

How long it holds up will depend largely on initial health of the tranny.
