Am I being TOO critical?

Post by spaze34 »

This is my second set of main bearings that I have ordered that have defects straight out of the box...

I originally ordered KING BEARINGS ... rods and mains. The rod bearings all looked good, but out of the 12 mains...4 came with some pretty nasty "nicks" or imperfections that can be felt by the finger nail.

So last week I forfeited my Saturday plans to get the bottom end buttoned up...and ordered GLYCO main bearing set from BavAuto (they had them in stock and could get them to me by this weekend)

Now one of these GLYCO thrust/main bearings have some imperfections also, that you can easily catch or feel with your finger nail....

Am I being hypercritical, from everything that I have read...FM and imperfections in new bearings can cause havoc on a bottom-end....?

Should I order another set and hope that they will be right?

I wouldn't use those if it was me, but I haven't ever built a bottom end... Do you think BMW put them together with parts like that back in the 80's? I don't...

I wouldn't use them. Can you file them flat?

Order a new set, mix and match, then return a set with a notice about the damage so "hopefully" they don't just put them back on the shelf for the next guy.

What grade of king bearings were you ordering? I know the SI bearings are made in Israel and don't seem to be very good quality.

No, you are not being too critical. I would return them.

No way in hell I'd use. Trust your intuition. I'm in the middle of a rebuild myself & whenever my spidey sense tingles I triple check and/or get another opinion.
Try Blunttech, he'll hook you up.

These were made in Israel, says it right on the box. I will not be ordering King Bearings again... also no feedback from seller on ebay so looks like I'm stuck with these. Reckon these can be mock-up bearings for the future.

I took your advise and ordered a new GLYCO set of mains bearings from BavAuto, talked to their customer service which was great. I have return order emailed. so as soon as I get the new set and pick out the best ones haha...
