Tapping oil pan advice....

I'm thinking to use a step up drill bit to tap the oil pan for a 1/2 npt thread. How far behind the pan wall is the oil baffle?? How far can I go before I fuck things up?? Lol

This is mine... I'm not sure where I would put it if I redid it, however...

1/2" NPT x -10AN nipple

Clearance with the motor mount is a concern for bottom mounting:

I have a pan already tapped for an oil drain if you’d like to swap.
