My car is running really well, most of the time. There are a few occasions, seems mostly on a hill, where there is a delay - I press the throttle down and nothing happens, then eventually it builds builds then goes.
Fuel filter has been replaced, injectors are rebuilt, turbo is fine. I'm thinking it could be rust in the fuel tank, pump, or something in the lines?
Or could it be something in the transmission?
Has anyone else had this?

Re: hesitation or lag
Hello,
When you replaced the filter did you happen to turn the old one upside down and see if any major rust particles came out? that would be an easy check, and with a partially emtpy tank and a good flashlight you can probably see into the tank a little bit as well.
For the hesitation, are you pressing the throttle all the way and hoping for a downshift, or just rolling into the throttle and waiting for boost to build?

Re: hesitation or lag
There was a lot of junk in the old filter.
Yesterday I started the car on a slight incline. Put it in D, pressed throttle all the way down. It barely moved.
Still looking for a pattern but it seems to be on hills. If it were a fuel starvation issue, I would expect to see an idle change, a stumble, something.
But the engine remains smooth.
I don't think there's a throttle position sensor in these cars is there?

Re: hesitation or lag
was there a big cloud of black smoke behind you when you did that? not 100% sure why but I have read in the past that too much pre-boost fuel delivery actually makes the spool up time worse. If that is not your case, i would say you are probably starving it of fuel or perhaps the incline is causing a pickup issue. how is the fuel level in the tank?
Re: hesitation or lag
Again, starvation would cause a stumble, there is none. That's the weird thing.
Zero smoke. I do smell diesel sometimes but I'm guessing that's normal for this car?
Injectors and pump are all dry, no leaks.

Re: hesitation or lag
Mine had the wastegate adjusted very poorly. It was actually held partly open, which made the turbo spool take forever. Might be worth plumbing in a boost gauge temporarily if you don't have one to see what it does. I also find that rolling into the throttle vs just flooring it makes it accelerate a lot better.
Re: hesitation or lag
Good idea. Is there a location/plug already there somewhere to tap boost?
Re: hesitation or lag
There is a fitting next to the boost compensator on the bottom of the intake. Should be a short piece of hose to the boost compensator from there. Adding in a short bit of hose and a tee would get you a temporary connection point.
