Waddles, the little iS that could: 1987 BMW 535is
Hello everyone,
Well the day has come. After searching three weeks for another e28 after the accident and falling of my previous one, I finally found another one. Here it is, 1987 BMW 535is Alpine White on Pacific Blue Leather. Production day 08/86, just a month before my eta was made. The car is amazing and I couldn't be happier to own it. Bought from a former member, Glenn, about two days ago. The car has it's problems but I'm sure it will be THUGGINSPEC soon! I'm excited for the new chassis and the adventures I will take with it. Known as Pelican5 from the previous owner, Glenn kept the name so I must as well. Pelican5 will be the name but it's nicknamed waddles, as it reminds me of a grandma pig.
Excited for the future!

Nice ride! I'm jelly 'cos all of your panels appear to be pristine. I got the same color is but the passenger side has some, ahhh... traffic artifacts shall we say.

So after a month of frustration surrounding the car was sorted out, here we are.
The car failed to pass smog even though the previous said it clearly would. I was too busy with school, taking 6 classes and commuting an hour away while leaching off my parents was miserable. I resorted to my uncle since I kind of knew why the car failed smog.
My car spent 3 weeks at my uncles shop because he was lazy and never fixed the CA smog issue.
I took the car and fixed the problem that day. New CA catalytic converter, new muffler, new 02 sensor, new spark plugs, plug wires, new oil, and there it was.
Passed like a dream, and I was finally able to get my tags since the DMV held them until the car passed.
I started driving the car two days ago and there is no time to waist.
I decided to continue the legacy of the 528e and convert lots of the parts into the iS.
The iS airdam
Euro headlights
Front euro m5 suspension
New Garagistic transmission counts
New motor mounts
Washers to raise the motor about 20mm
Cleaned out the nasty cabin
Fixed the sloppy shift linkage
Rolled the fenders for the RS's once I toss the old coilovers on.
New trunk seal
Hoping to fix everything soon, while I'm still on Winter Break.
The daily 535is begins.

I tossed my BC coilovers on. The skidplate from the eta was thrashed since that car was crazy low. The mounting bracket actually broke from the two nuts.
I had two new nuts re-welded onto the bracket, and tossed them onto the car.
The stock wheels had huge tires, so I had to raise the coils up a lot.
It still sits super low and it's a pretty cozy ride.

Not much progress on the car as of lately.
Experienced some errors with the system and the clutch lost pressure a few weeks.
So, I bought a new stage 1 clutch, rear main, master, and slave whenever the clutch decides to go out.
As for the electrical system, I'm currently dealing with Fuse #9 constantly blowing out right when I turn on my lights.
Which is annoying, but i've read on the forums to check lots of things and follow the wires to see such and such, you get it. I hope it's just the headlight switch. If not, I'm screwed. I'll figure it out hopefully.
As for everything else, I've taken the care through Mulholland Drive to Malibu like 5 times and the car did great. Also, I drove through decker rd. and other trails leading to Thousand Oaks and Malibu. The car is doing great in that sense.
Lastly, the car will be heading to the shop soon because I finally am getting around to doing the proper euro conversion with the correct valances.
Here are some pictures I took while it was sunny in the mountains, and when it was raining terribly strong, I was frightened.

I have found the solution as to why Fuse #9 keeps blowing.
At first, I changed everything I thought would be the problem.
Changed bulbs, rear fogs, etc etc.
I realized Fuse #12 has some relation to Fuse #9 as well as many others.
I check my Antenna and found that it was double grounded. So, I took one ground off and boom. Working once again.
Then that same day, while I was driving home from school, it burnt out again. Out of frustration, I pulled over at 1am and began to figure it out for hopefully for the final time.
I remember my friend installed my old Alpine radio from the 528e. Luckly, I pulled the entire unit out and found spaghetti wires. It was a nightmare.
After spending like $30 on fuses to switch out new ones for the crusty old ones, the fuse never blew. Sure, I don’t have a radio now but I would rather drive with my lights working. My four year old playlist can take a break.
I still miss my 528e.

I've gotten so used to the US Bumpers that I don't mind them but alas, if given the choice of course..... Great Job!

UPDATE: JULY 13, 2019
Wow, I don't remember where I left off.
Here's the car at the StanceWorks meet
Soon after my last post, I replaced the rear end with adjustable trailing arms from my old car. I bought a 3.64LSD from a guy I know that was taken off of his e30. I resealed the diff and replaced the cover. Topped it off with new redline fluid and finished the job with new axles.
I took the fogs off and put on deletes. Put these cool non-transparent vinyl stickers on the high beams.
Tossed my old BBS RS's on-
Then I started to hate the wide wheels so I tossed my style 5's back on with new rubber
As this was going on, I re-did my rear RS wheels - 16x11.5 to 16x9. 4 inch lips to 2 inch lips. 7 inch barrels to 6.5 inch barrels. Never got around to putting the tires on LOL.
Lastly, I got my tan rear seats off my 528e and painted them blue since my current blue seats were garbage. As well as a brand new radio that kicks ass in the car.
The major progress on this car was my front subframe.
There was sort of this uneasy shake on my car that I always felt. I got so fed up that I decided to dig deeper. The results of my discoveries were quite bleh.
My front subframe had a huge hole.
Then I see this.
And this...
Thankfully I had a front subframe from my old euro spec e24, so I got the Ed Steering bracket welded on, and the subframe painted.
I tossed it on, then I got iffy of my front suspension so while I was there I replaced the entire front suspension assembly. As well as my torn up Guibo.
The car handled like a beauty and my god I loved it. Somewhere in this story, I got a Garagistic Short Shifter and taught my gf how to drive my car.
After two weeks, the car took a dump.
So, as of today, I'm still currently car less. About almost a month ago, my car stopped running when 100 degrees hit here in Southern California. I attempted to leave my apartment when the car wouldn't run for unexplainable reasons. The car gave no indication of failure what so ever. At the time, I was leaving to Hawaii for nine days nearly a week before this, so I got nervous. I didn't want to leave my car here so I trailered it back to my parents house to avoid getting street sweeping tickets.
As I dug into the car I found lots of flaws in the system. First, the inline fuel pump went out so I replaced that as well as the filter on the street before I towed it. My battery was drained so I walked to AutoZone, carrying my battery in my hands. AutoZone is actually down the street. My battery was nearly dead.
Car still didn't start now, but I was getting fuel and I also had no air leaks. So, vacation time was close so I brought the car home while I was away.
When I got back from my trip, I noticed my reference sensor and speed sensor were actually broken too. After, I replaced those. THEN, my battery was completely dead again even though I unplugged it while I was gone. Come to find out, the battery's core was completely done. There went another $100-$150 dollars, ugh.
I got bored so I tossed a new clutch fan on the car to help the idling heat.
I got fed up and since I had more resources at home, I diagnosed the car. I came to find out now the car has no spark.
That is where I am currently.

Start wiggling wires, swapping relays or swap ecu. It's gonna be something simple.

Shit... Been a while.
I've replaced so much. Been through a crash, replaced the front end damage. New driveshaft because the old one snapped. New full exhaust with a magnaflow cat and Ireland Engineering resonator and muffler. Wheels refinished from 16x10 -> 16x8, and 16x11.5 -> 16x8.5. New oil pan gasket, shit new water pump, new plugs, thermostat, replaced the coolant three times, new wheel hubs. So much as happened since the last updates, that's all I can remember. Mileage: 279,xxx.
Still reliable, broke down three times though. New fuel pump, new fuel filter, new ECU with a chip. Old one got fried. An alarm system, new sensors: nearly all. Bought tires for the old wheels that are barely used. New painted driver fender because a lady backed into my car and f*cked up the front end.

Before the lady hit me, I took this photo. The car had a red fender, no front or rear bumper for two months. *The original fender was fixed, so I still have matching VIN's. Finally back to normal but this was in November.
