Glad everyone got theirs, sorry it took so long to get it done. I wanted to make sure everything is right.

If you have any kind of issues with the installation, just get a hold of me.
Troubleshooting from a distance is not always easy, but I'll do what I can. We have a bunch of them in cars and working great.

Also, if you are interested in one and didn't make the first round, just get a hold of me.
We are currently trying to time the second run.
The price will be slightly higher ($160), as the additional costs for the threaded perch and the bushing pin were not accounted for with the last run.

I just wanted to give my review of the Improved Clutch Spring I purchased here on the MyE28 forum. The part looks really nice and well-built, much beefier through the "head" portion around the eye of the bolt hole. It is definitely better than the replacement "OEM" part that I ordered a few months back that I think was made in Eastern Europe in some country I don't remember. This previous OEM replacement clutch spring broke upon first engagement of the clutch pedal, right at the area where the threaded rod meets the bolt eye hole. This is exactly the area that this new Improved Clutch Spring is thicker and appears to be milled from one piece of metal (rather than cast like the "OEM" replacement part). The spring itself looks the about same thickness as the OEM spring, but upon installing the spring seems to be much stiffer when I tried to push in the clutch on the bench (not in the car yet). However, once the pedal assembly was reinstalled into the car with this new improved clutch spring, the clutch engagement was not hard at all and seemed equivalent to stock pressure engagement. The part fit without any fitment issues.
I am very satisfied with the build quality, fitment and functionality of the part.

I just installed mine today, along with a clutch pedal bracket reinforcement. A few notes:
  • The instructions don't point out that you'll need threadlocker until they direct you to apply it. I happened to read the instructions first, and had some blue LocTite on hand, so I was OK.
  • Once I installed it and went for a test drive, I noticed the clutch pedal was a bit slow to return - if I raised my foot as fast as possible, the pedal couldn't keep up. By the end of the test drive, the return rate was back to normal. Friction in the helper spring assembly, maybe?
  • I didn't remove the clutch pedal. Instead, I removed the clutch switch arm and the bolt connecting the pedal to the clutch master cylinder. That allowed me to pull the pedal far enough forward to let the assembly drop out. That didn't make it as easy as I hoped, but I did manage to install it.

Thanks for your feedback, glad you like it!
The spring might seem stiffer but measures at the same spring rate as the factory one.

Good notes thanks. I’ll adjust the instructions and list the threadlock in the beginning.

Very interesting comment in regards of the pedal return. The only thing I can think off is some kind of wear in behavior in one of the 2 bronze bushings? You changed from a factory spring to the new spring?
I have one more person reporting the pedal not fully returning to the initial position, unless pulled back.
There was no spring installed for him previously so it’s hard to say if it’s a similar behavior like you had or wear in the MC or maybe even air in the system?

The installation can be a pain, I know. I’ve also gotten messages from people fully loosening the MC. There is multiple ways to go about it. None of them make it a fun job.

The threaded insert did not bind at all, so I don't see how that could be the issue.
BenGerman wrote:You changed from a factory spring to the new spring?
I was thinking friction between the shaft and the part it slides through. I used the new spring that came with the unit.

I had that same problem. It turned out I hadn't got the tabs in the pivot trough - they were too low. Once I got them in the trough everything was fine except for the initial slow return rate.

There is another glide bushing pressed into the base of the assembly, that’s what the shaft slides through.

You are talking about the little feet that sit in the bottom bracket?

Glad to hear they all arrived.

Everybody happy? I've heard a lot of good things, 1-2 people had smaller issues during installation, turned out that that pedal boxes where bent or the master cylinder was shot.

Very pleased. No installation issues and an improvement for me as the old one was TIRED!

Waiting until June to install mine, when the car comes out of storage. I take it out of the tool box every now and again to admire it.

I'm in for one! Yesterday while driving, heard a popping noise, looked to the floor and a ton of bits and a spring appeared there :?

I've never had an issue, but I might as well join the crowd. I'm in for when the next run is done.

BTDT, though not recently.

I wonder if/when I'll get around to installing mine. :dunno:
I'm one of those "if it ain't broke..." guys. :|
I'm also one of those "emergency parts stash" guys too,
which has proved itself useful on too many road trips.

Finally got mine installed. Sadly, the increased force of Ben’s strong return spring seems to have destroyed my old clutch master. After about 5 minutes of testing I heard a loud pop and my clutch master push rod seems to have dislodged itself from the master cylinder. Must have been on its last legs!

I'm not sure this spring tension has much to do with applied force on the plunger?
Maybe I'm wrong, and need correcting.
Anyone?

What's the condition of your pedal box?

The spring should not alter the forces at all.
Usually what happens once you fix one thing in the mechanism, you find everything else that’s wrong. :?

Hope you can get the MC replaced soon!

I have a long list of people interested in the next batch. I’m trying to figure out the best timing for it.
The price will increase to $150, the efforts to finish everything were way higher than expected. :|
