Looking forward to the resolution on the spoiler- Chris's eye for the little details never ceases to amaze.
Digging the liner for the moonroof- looking forward to the install.

Thank Fu**ing God, I didn't stick with painting this car Minerva. That's all for now.

I'm not on facebook, so I can't verify, but apparently someone else is building an S54 powered E28 painted Minervablau. The potato pic I saw re-enforced why I changed my mind on using that color.

Yeah sucks to have the same ideas as everyone else. That's why you don't tell people your plans. Didn't work for me either.

To be clear, I couldn't care less if there's other Minerva painted cars out there. Or Arrow.

My comment was based around the fact that I decided (late, but not too late) that I actually don't like the way Minervablau looks in many light situations. It has a washed out appearance that is too teal. The pictures I saw of the (now) M57 car re-enforced this for me.

Arrowblau is the same pigment, but because it is not metallic, light does not play on it the same way. It always "pops" which is what I was after.

I still like the car name Minerva though, and will keep it. I have my reasons.

I guess I misunderstood. I know you have seen photos of Bjorn’s M5 so I thought that was part of your decision making. Either way glad you’re happy with your decision. Would suck to be this far into it and realize at this point you might not like it. I’ve been there.

You did misunderstand, but that's not your fault.

I have communicated with Bjorn several times previously. His car was absolutely my inspiration for choosing Minervablau. I knew I wanted a special blue and dug the photos of his car. The name Minerva has a personal connection for me and I love Porsches. Etc...

Much later, I finally saw a few Minervablau 911s in person and realized the color washed out in the sun. This was just weeks before the car was to hit the paint booth. Then I met @3pedalcollector at Vintage and he explained how Arrow and Minerva are the same color, just non-metallic and metallic respectively. I found an Arrow blue 911 in Seattle and checked it out. It was exactly what I wanted...plus I liked the fact that non-metallic is generally easier to fix. So I changed plans. I'm delighted with the result (but insanely anxious to finish it for realz).

Btw, I have heard Bjorn is giving the e28goodies guys grief for using Minervablau (I'm not on Facebook anymore so I hear thins secondhand). I know he wasn't happy with me choosing that color, but he never asked me not to.do it. If he had I'd have told him to take a hike.

Oh, and the car is back from the upholstery shop with the headliner installed. I hope to have a conjugal visit Thursday. I'll post pictures if I do.

The thought just popped in my head after reading about the motor mounts / motor position slightly forward: Have you had a chance of weighing the S54 vs the stock motor?

I don't recall seeing any conversation on this, at least on this thread. I can see you moving the 10mm wrench to the glovebox if it helps you achieve 50.0000/50.0000 weight distribution... and I respect that

I deserve the scorn. Sorry about that.

I will be able to visit tomorrow. I had a chance to drop by last week and was able to get the ECU programmed to delete the secondary O2 sensor etc... Ages ago I had gotten all the software setup to read/write the MSS54HP ECU and change all interesting settings. I had already done this with the stock tune, but the ECU now has the Steve Dinan provided tune, so I had to do it again. Fortunately, my old, trusty Lenovo Stinkpad X200s still runs and the software licenses still work. I used BMWFlash to read/write the flash and the amazing MSS52 / MSS54 / MSS54HP Binary Modification Tool to change the programming.

As I was doing this, it took me a while to remember how it all worked (it WAS Oct 15, 2017 when we got the motor running the first time with the test-fit in the chassis). But I got it figured out.
Image

I was able to do this because we finally got most electrics up and running, so there was power to the ECU and OBDII port. And CAN Bus. Note my custom Mtech 1 wheel. Tee-hee.
Image

The car wasn't ready to start last week though...
Image
Image

Digging the ECU mount. Nice fab. Compare this to my hack on Vlad.
Image

Note baggie of brand new, ceramic fuses?
Image

I had to remind the 425 team how we had set things up so the Z4M air filter housing fit...they had started re-inventing. We had to form a small dimple in the airbox to clear the brake booster and we've located the E36 heater control valve (I don't know where yet; I'll see tomorrow).
Image

The Z4M wiring harness box is not in place yet.
Image

Compare above to Oct 2017 to see how slick it's gonna be with that Z4M harness cover.
Image

Image

Rear exhaust hanger fab. Solid.

Oh, and one last thing. Watch this:

F*UCK YEAH!

I was sadly not there for it, but I will get to experience moar tomorrow...

Question for y'all. Realized I don't have a plan for a fan shroud. What creative ideas do you have?

Off the top of my head, but how different is your radiator to the stock ones for the E46, E39 or E28? One thought is to modify an E46 or E39 but too many questions.

I got to sit in Minerva (on the floor), put the key in the ignition, and start the S54 today!

New video here: https://youtu.be/mcy5W_T0Q64

The intake tube will be powder coated matte and the clamps will be black too. It think it'll look great. I was hoping for something that looked more factory, but I think the powder coating will help.

AC lines...

Can haz lights.

Here's what I'm missing and ISO:

- New (or like new) Mouse Fir for front-L and both rear doors.
- A glovebox in fantastic shape. I forgot I used the really great one I had in Maytag and the one I have is sketch.
- Another moonroof. The one we have is bent on one corner. It'll work, but it's not perfect.
- An M5 trunk lid cover and toolkit (the dark grey version).
- Parking / e-brake surround horsehair section for NON-power seat version (I have the surround, just missing the center piece that has the horsehairs).

If you have any of these parts, I'd appreciate hearing from you. As always, ckindel(at)gmail.com.

I may have a Euro hand brake horsehair surround or two in my stash of parts.

I have converted two of my Etas from manual to electric seats and I have a real problem throwing serviceable parts away that I take off of my cars. Is this a sickness?

I will check the basement tomorrow morning and get back to you.

Mick

This is a great thread. I've been pondering engine and gearbox upgrades too. I've read the thread but seem to have missed what specific mods are required to fit the Getrag 420g Ronan e28 transmit tunnel however!
