1987 528e - trying to determine price for potential sale

Post by Braddock »

Greetings - trying to get an objective assessment of my E28 towards a possible sale and would appreciate any/all feedback as to value.

Details:

1987 E28
159k miles
5 speed
interior is in fantastic shape, with the exception of a single crack in the dashboard. No rips/tears in the seats and the leather is in very good condition
exterior paint has some clear coat failure underway. particularly on the trunk.
Power windows all work as expected and glass is in great shape
Decent BBS knockoff wheels with an excellent set of matching General GMax 215/45/17 tires all the way around
I have original, stock wheels as well.

The car starts, stops, drives well. Stereo is crap and I've really not made an effort to address it. Basically, an unmolested E28. I believe that I am fourth owner.

Located in Maryland.

I've had it for two years and have probably put less than 1000 miles on it. It's been garage kept throughout my ownership. I'm currently sitting on this as well as two E46s (330CI vert and coupe, both daily drivers) and an E92 that I just rebuilt. Suffice to say that I've got to downsize. I work from home these days, so not getting much use out of any of them. I plan to sell two cars, but really have not determined which ones.

Thanks for reviewing and look forward to the responses.

My apologies if this post belongs elsewhere. Feel free to let me know if that's the case.

With the provided information, maybe $2-3000.

You should read my note on how to sell a car, clean it up REAL well, get some REAL photos, and try again.

Here's the serious one.

Here's the sarcastic one.

Hope this helps!

I'd agree with garageboy about providing a better description and more detailed images. It'd be really helpful to be better able to get the help you're looking for.

I do disagree on his value assesment though, (assuming the car is rust free) even with the limited information and limited images it looks like a clean car, less the obvious paint issues. Worth much more than $2-$3k.

I recently sold a 85 e28 manual with 142k miles and worse paint than your car and got 2.5x the $2-3k valuation.

Do your research on sold cars, both here and on Bring a Trailer.

I think you’ll get more if you put the stock wheels back on and sell the replica wheels separately. IMO it presents better with the stock wheels. Originality or at least period correctness adds value. Echoing what everyone else said clean it up best you can and take good pictures.

Greetings. After 300+ views of the original post, I'm happy to see some responses. Thanks for your feedback.

If you've PM'd me, I'm not able to respond as the default behavior of the board does not allow new users to respond to a PM. I've changed my user preferences so that I now receive an email when I receive a PM. Though I still cant respond to PM, I'll respond via the email.
