Non-OEM relay

Post by Aldo525 »

I had forgotten this relay that my car has installed that is not original and I have no idea what it was or could be used for. It is connected as shown in the diagram of the same relay, in the ignition coil circuit (original green wire was cut), but the yellow wire was disconnected at some point, only the brown connections remain and I do not dare to disconnect it before having a minimum clue of why. that was used. Any ideas??

WAG given the diagram on it which mentions coil, with an image of one, I'd guess it was part of an aftermarket alarm/anti theft system.

The diagram indicates the brown wire to the coil was cut and then the two ends were connected to the relay. I assume the yellow wire would energize the relay, breaking the connection to the coil. If the yellow wire is disconnected and the car starts and runs normally, you most likely can just reconnect the two brown wires to each other and then remove the relay.

Yes, the car had an aftermarket alarm that was removed long time ago....maybe this relay is the remaining of that system.

Thanks Mike!!

This is what I was thinking of doing, reconnecting the original cable and removing the relay, but I wanted to know first if perhaps it was installed to avoid or prevent any type of electrical damage to the ignition system. I'll take it out and tell you if there is any difference in reconnecting the original cable compared to having the coil with a relay in between.

Thanks for your comments!!
