I've noticed that some of my PMs have disappeared. I wanted to keep these messages. Whats the time period that a message will automatically be deleted and why can't we store them permanently?

The messages disappear because they auto-delete when your Inbox rolls over 50 messages. The oldest ones disappear first. And yes, you can save them. That is why there is a "Save Box" folder. Putting an 'X' in the ones you want to save and then clicking "Save Marked" will put them into the folder. But the save folder might have a limit, too. I am unsure.

I'd be interested to know what that limit is also for the save box. Perhaps it's better to be safe & save them as a text file locally?

There's a handy status bar in the upper right hand corner telling you how full the particular box you have open is. InBox, OutBox, SentBox, SaveBox all have a 50 message limit and all will auto-prune after the box reaches 100%.
