The 'M' valance is essentially the same as the later model 'non-M', right?

It's just the spoiler/lip that's different, IIRC.

I believe so but have seen a few different variations. I was hoping someone would also be able to enlighten me on the subject.

There are only 2 real styles of valance, early and late....

Some of the late ones have different cut outs for ventilation, but most are the same. Its the spoilers that look different...

I know which one I am looking for as I have seen them on some cars posted here but am not sure which one is the "early" and which one is the "late" model valance and lip. Does anyone have anymore info and/or pics to clarify for me?
Thanks in advance.

I have a 1984 528e which is an early valance, and I believe that if I had an 88 535i it would be a late valance? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Early (notice the lack of a "chin"):

Late (much beefier...pics are of 1985bmw535i's car):

The style I am looking for is exactly the one on the red e28; I guess "late" model front valance and lower portion. Thanks for all the help in clarifying.
If anyone is interested in selling, I am interested in buying one.

The only difference between the Euro M5 and a Non M Euro 5-Series is the bottom spoiler, which is about $500 new from Jim at Maxamillian. But if you just want the valance,it is siginifantly less than the M5 spoiler. I don't know if they are still available new or not though. You may want to contact Jim at Maxamillian though, his info can be found in the Mye28 Endorsed Seller Sticky in the For Sale/Wanted section, concerning a euro valance as they are pretty good at tracking down euro parts.

However, Paul LaDue, aka "alpinass" has a early Euro valance for sale on his website for $150. here

Good Luck

I think there's some confusion. There's no "valance and lower portion" -- it's all one piece. The deeper, more bulbous valance is the late one, and there is essentially no difference between the US and Euro valances, except for the fact that the Euro valance has holes cut out for the turn signals.

Shawn, he could be talking about the M5 spoiler, and didn't know that there were to seperate pieces.

SF-535is, are looking for a setup like this?

If so, then your going to have to track down a late model Euro valance, and a Euro M5 front spoiler. They are two seperate pieces.

This is a little confusing but I am interested in a "late" model front valance w/ the M5 lower portion. Those were the 2 pieces I was refering to. I was a little worried about making the cut-outs for the lights in my stock US valance so if I can find a euro piece, I would probably save my self a lot of headache.
I appreciate everone's input as I have learned something from every post.

OK, then don't call it a "lower portion." Say you want a late Euro valance and a Euro M5 spoiler. That's the correct terminology.

Just FYI, none of the pics I posted above show a Euro M5 spoiler. The black portion you see at the bottom of the valance is simply black paint. The Euro M5 spoiler mounts over the black portion...See the pic 1985bmw535i posted for a view of the spoiler.

early euro valance

Post by alpinass »

I perfer this model - it has ducts to attach 'brake ducts' to the rotors. Late had BIG drop down 'tow hook' doors. I am going to run an ALPINA style tow hook that will screw in when needed. Of course it will be RED.
