My thoughts on the betterment of the board.

Post by T_C_D »

What do people think of the following?

1. Common courtesy and respect as a matter of rule enforced by Beamters. Disruptive members warned, reprimanded and banned if necessary.
2. Creation of a few new sub forums such as “Election year politics”, “Look at me (what I am doing)” unrelated to the e28. This would allow members to avoid posts that are potentially disruptive or annoying rather easily.
3. Creation and enforcement of rules pertaining to for sale adverts. Primarily no comments that disparage the original poster’s attempt at a sale.

Some easily implemented changes may improve this forum for all.

Take your pussy, cry baby, "why can't we all just get along add-on more layers of bureaucracy bullshit" and go somewhere else. The Beemters do a good job of policy enforcement as it stands.

Well, to implement numbers one and three, set guidelines as to what defines common courtesy and respect, as well as explicit classified rules would need to be created, to eliminate any potential grey area. I do think that they might turn the Beamters into moderators, which I do not believe is their desired purpose in life.

I think that 1 and 3 are a good idea, but I don't see the politics one being a good idea, nor do I think the "Look at me (what I am doing) subforum is necessary, as it fits into the General Conversation subforum: General conversations about BMW E28s and the people who own them.

I am under no illusions about everyone getting along. Any modicum of respect for others would be nice.

Well, that reply was somewhat rude. I thought this was a well thought-out proposal and you just shat all over it. Please turn your BMW in to the next user and take your shitty attitude elsewhere. BTW, I've been in combat, and I didn't see you there.

I would support that. I don't think anyone should post anything that they would not say face to face in person. I consider anything beyond that as a comment by a "keyboard kommando" .

IMO nothing needs to be changed. The loose laces keep me coming back. Life is all too often watered down with a great deal of pussyfooting. I kind of like the 'no punches pulled' exchange.

These are great ideas! How about one more sub-section, this one for people to complain about the board not meeting their needs, and announce that they are (yet again) leaving.

That was rude and childish. I'm all for banter, poking and joking. But not this. This type of behavior is one that 'should' be examined and not tolerated.

Well number 3 would be great, dunno about number 2 (it is "general conversation," after all), and I too think that number one would turn the Beamters into Moderaters, which I'm sort of against. I'd say that for the most part we do a pretty decent job of policing ourselves. It's not super difficult to simply ignore the people you don't like. Either way dude I hope you stick around.

Well, that certainly is a shining example of the problem. You haven't been here a year yet and are being unnecessarily rude to a longstanding member who has contributed a great deal to the board and events like 5er Fest. Name-calling like you just did is pretty childish in my book.

Did you really think I was suggesting there was a time requirement to make comments? I'll answer that -- no, I don't think you did. I believe you understood perfectly well what I meant.

Twisting and/or misrepresenting someone else's statements isn't beneficial to board harmony.

Now this is what is clearly wrong. Who the F IS this guy? I'm trying to think about all the things he's done to help people out but nothing seems to come to mind?
I think Todd has provided us with a wonderful service these last 2 days because all the problems with the forum have appeared due to his post.

While I think this was a harsh way of putting it, this is a great example of how liberal politics and "big goverment" growth works: finding places to put red tape and isolating those who are too "rough" for competition and putting them in a little box, unable to grow. God, I hate bureaucracy!!!

Wow, talk about a one note song. I'm not sure what any of the "liberal politics" or "big government" or "red tape" have to do with anything related to the E28 community. What matters is the quality of the community, not some Darwinian world view being exercised via Internet forums.

Here's what I think the main problem is:
Grandstanding!
These pitiful arguments involve ego, and nobody want's their ego hurt but have no problem hurting others.
Everyone is tough in the bar, but nobody seems to want to step out to the parking lot.
Takes your gripe with someone to pm mail, w/o your friends to back you up. Why must someone else have to become undignified in order for someone else to be right? How can you corner a man in front of his peers and not expect them to come out swinging?
We do need some type of decorum here and we should not need a moderator if we are true men, even though some of the younger ones have some growing up to do.
I was the same way at that age but eventually realized that God gave me 2 ears to listen and one tongue to talk and that I should listen twice as much as I talk.
If 2 people have a problem I say take it to the back room. Curse each other out, or just work it out between yourselves but w/o the audience watching!
The gang mentality needs to go. Real men do not need the protection of a gang!

Before anyone comes here and starts suggesting new rules one should be able to live by them.

1. Would you say the post you started about the board "going down the toilet" was showing any respect, or common courtesy? Throughout that thread you continued to be critical....right to the end.

2. If you think this forum is in the toilet now just add a political forum. To see how that would go you need to visit the RF political forum and read the exchanges. http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/politics-lounge/ This one new forum would be the death of the mye28 community.

3. #3 would fall under common courtesy and respect and I heartily support this one!

Although some here will stir the pot and get the ire up for a large number of us there are very few of these disruptive posters, most get bashed up pretty good by the board members when they get out of line. Creating more "police" may eventually be a solution, but for now I think the board does a pretty good job of policing itself.
