Is blocking threads or posts by specific users possible?
Is blocking threads or posts by specific users possible?
I am curious if it is possible to block posts by specific users? I have looked over the user control panel and have also run searches on the topic to no avail. Is there a way to do this other than asking the moderators of the site to seriously consider banning a specific user?

Version 3 of the phpBB forum software has a feature to block users, as part of the friend/foe system. I would like to switch over to it sooner or later as v2 is no longer supported, but haven't had much time on my hands for the past while to do all the required work behind the scenes as well as with experimentation and testing of some modifications to suit our needs. I'm about 70% there...
While there are no "to die for" upgrades in v3, it does have a much improved private message component which I think many folks would appreciate. Many of the bigger changes are more on the administrative side of things, which haven't been a problem with v2 on a forum of our size/activity level.

Have a big wet sookie cry girls. Kyle, you change your tune so often (even within the same thread) I can barely make sense of what you type anyway. Your latest example is in Eye Candy. I have just pointed out to you in explicit detail how you have contradicted yourself again. Perhaps if you made a little more sense in your posts, you might be able to see my point of view.tsmall07 wrote:I think he's well on his way (lately)Kyle in NO wrote:I hope DRP535 tries REALLY hard...
I'm not picking on you, but you often say one thing and then later on come back and blatantly say either the opposite or claim that you never said that at all - even while the evidence is still there further up the thread proving you wrong. It's pretty difficult to take someone who does this seriously. I try to give you as much time as I can to correct yourself, but sometimes you choose to resort to simple name calling when you've run out of logical arguments and that's a bit pointless.

Wish I could remember who said that.
As for banning anyone, Rumba, my vote would be to ban anyone named after a robotic vacuum ...

That's a very common aphorism. Unfortunately, it's also very commonly mis-quoted. The real phrasing is:C.R. Krieger wrote:"Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds."
Wish I could remember who said that.
Thus, "consistency" is not the hobgoblin of small minds, but "a foolish consistency" is. Sort of like with folks who always vote a straight Democratic or Republican ticket.Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote:A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesman and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. — 'Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.' — Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.
