prestone antifreeze rebate ripoff

Post by marc79euro645 »

I've done the rebate with prestone several times before.
What a bunch of bullshit to have to do to get a lousy $7 a gallon back, when their gouging us in the first place!
I have a family fleet of cars that I maintain so I buy it pretty often.
My last submittal was refused for lack of receipt.
No way! I know to copy the receipt & staple the foil tops on to it.
prestone's game is over for me
just wanted to vent

Well, if you're going to rant, at least do it in the proper forum!

If the rebates/discounts aren't taken at the counter, I don't play.

This is typically my rule also. Exceptions are when it's significant dollars, like a rebate for the value of 1 tire when buying 4 or at Staples.

Staples lets you do it online simply by entering the code printed on the rebate receipt. Funds can be deposited directly into a PayPal account.

Rebates are frustrating, but please explain how they're (the proper spelling, BTW) "gouging"?

coolant has gotten way out of hand, i started using a 72/28 mix of coolant/water instead of 70/30 to cut back on expenses.

You should try 68/32 and ring in the savings.

I generally don't do mail-in rebates either, unless it's a decent dollar amount, making it worth my time. It's not exactly "gouging", but the manufacturer is pulling a fast one by offering the discount by way of the mail-in coupon because they know some people will be lured in by the promise of a lower price but most won't bother sending in the paperwork. Just slightly underhanded.

OTOH, even with the discount, they're not selling at a loss. This means they're making at least $7 profit for every gallon sold at the normal price.

My favorite are the people that buy the pre-mix. It's $2 less per gallon, but for $.89 over the straight coolant, you can have twice as much.

Rebates are a scam. They are betting that you won't go through with it, especially since you're SOL once you remove the UPC. Then, your approval is solely at their discretion. Pain in the ass. I fought with Ace for a year on a rebate for a drill. I still never got the $20 back.
