preparing for boost
Just picked up an 85 535i parts car with a running motor that I'm swapping into my 83 533i (b33 motor is for sale) and I plan on boosting the b35 motor.....where do i even start? As nice as the TCD kits are, I'm not looking to get one, I'd rather build my own set up, I just don't even know where to start.

You bought a 1985 535i with a B35 swapped in?
If its a stock E28 535i motor its a B34. Swap over the engine and electronics as they play better with boosted cars than the motronic 1.3 DME.
Do yourself a favor and buy the TCD kit. It will save you a lot of time and $$$ in the long run. Unless you have a lot of fabrication skills, equipment, and time.

You have had 10 months to research and you still have no idea where to start?

Building manifolds can be pretty tough. You can probably hack some shit together and get the car to build boost, but you'll likely run into clearance issues and performance will not be nearly what it could be with a well engineered solution. Otis (Good n Tight on this board) and Todd (T_C_D on this board) have got their shit figured out. You're going to pay more, but it's a proven product.
The manifold is just a small part of a turbo system, you have a bunch more reading and learning to do, even if you do want to buy a kit.
