745i manifold sensor

Post by grey ghost »

On my 745 manifold is the sensor pictured below.
The part number does not come up on realoem, but in a google search it comes up as an o2 sensor. Part # 0258001032
Has anyone here swapped in an exhaust gas temp sensor?
I'd like to keep an eye on whats happening in there as far as temps are concerned.

EGT isn't the most important thing to monitor. If your AFR is good and your ignition advance is appropriate the EGTs will be fine. Small turbines raise EGT but unless you're going to replace the turbo it doesn't really matter.

IAT is much more relevant for turbo cars. If you don't know whats going on in there you are in for some bad times.

But how do you decide if your ignition advance is appropriate?
This is why I have EGT, for ignition tuning. It gives you an indication that nothing major is wrong with ignition timing.

Its pretty easy under boost. If you can't dial it in on the street put the car on a dyno and see what it likes. Tuning under manifold vacuum only requires a manifold pressure gauge, which MS has built in. If something major is wrong with ignition advance you'll have a few signs pointing in that direction.

I would be interested to see what kind of EGT I'm running but I've been running just fine for five years without the slightest idea.
