Yes, I went there.

Test fit rear bumper and valance; just attached loosely.

Ken did a bunch more buffing today. Says he's got a few more hours to do tomorrow.

Why the pinstripe hate?

Because it will look better without it. It's your car to ruin though.

Quick question: Do the drapes match the carpet?

As an anonymous internet nobody I would like to be a voice for pinstripes.

Pinstripes are nice. All you haters will be putting pinstripes all over your cars in the future. I know this because it came to me in a dream.

The pinstripes will swell or lift the paint, if you ever decide to remove them there will always be a ghostly evidence of them.

I'm not by any means a pinstripe hater, I think they can make or break a car. Your car looks so good as is I feel it would take away from it but what do I know, I'm just an Internet douchebag.

Due to tight time-frames I've decided to forgo doing the pin strips at this time. I just don't have the time/bandwidth to deal with it before 5erwest...

I was trying to get my car somewhat together but I gave up. I don't have your level of focus.

Didn't get nearly as much do today as hoped. I had a BOD meeting for a non-profit this morning (http://www.studentrnd.com) that went to 3pm. So most of the day was blown.

My ambition for getting the shadowline done may be too great. The 'kit' I bought from alpinass 2 years ago does not have the upper window trim in it. I did not notice this before. I should have inventoried it way back then; i'm not a fan of dealing with that guy anymore.

This pisses me off. It means that I have to paint those pieces myself. This de-motivated me in taking the rear doors apart to get at it. You have to remove the rear fixed glass in the doors in order to remove and re-install the upper trim and it's just a job I'm not feeling. But I started and so far I have the front door ready to go, including the inside trim.

I went to re-assemble the boot lock and an noticed the tumbler housing was fugly. So I took the time to sand, primer, and paint it.

Charlie: I have 3 doors (2 rear, 1 front) you can practice on if you would like. I don't really give a flying you know what. Rather you fuck up my junk than your treasure.

The rear door stuff is quite simple, you can DO it!

What isn't simple is getting paint to stick to an anodized surface, which is why the real stuff is preferred as it was never anodized. Don't rush any of this, Charlie. I'd leave it for another day. Jerry Reed said it best. "It ain't legal huntin' alligator down in the swamp, boy."

Wait. That's not it. "You have a long way to go and a short time to get there." That's the one.

There are several ways of getting the anodizing off. I like having it media blasted. Oven cleaner can work too.

The oven cleaner of years ago maybe. I wonder if you could just buy some lye and go at it.

It's probably different stuff, but I scuffed the trim on my wagon with a purple scotchbrite pad and rattle canned it. No primer, no special paint.
It might not have been the greatest coverage or masking (it was night with an led headlight), but none of the paint has come off in ~3+ years.
:dunno:

Actually I didn't see your post when I wrote that. We crossed streams.

I think I'm going to blow off everything but the driver's door before 5eWest and do them at a later date. Although I may change my mind later today, depending on how much I get done on other stuff. But I already sanded the driver's trim and will paint it today and see how it comes out.

It's the PITA of removing. In order to remove the rear upper trim you have to remove the rear glass.

I actually got pulled over one evening last year for not cleaning my license plate lights. Gave me a warning. I didn't have the heart to mention my glove box flashlight is missing. Blasphemy.

Looks great! Love that color, and the shine.

Visiting this thread really makes me feel inadequate, what with my ratty cars and the crappy climate here in the upper midwest. Since I can't have nice things, I'll just enjoy watching you guys bust your butts getting your cars to look like that. Thanks for the boost!
