Getting close to first start. I can smell it.



I decided I wanted the battery in the trunk, but not as far back as in the M5. I suspect I will change my mind on this point several times before we're done.


I plan in patching the holes the PO cut; not happy about potential for noise an lack of chassis stiffness.


We toyed with several radiator options. In the end I decided on this guy. Overflow nipple will be relocated to right side where the E34 540 overflow tank will be.

Car is gonna be a real hoot to drive with that S54. I mean shit it's super with 182. Or 130 Eta!

I went by the shop on Friday because they said they were ready to try to start the car!

Oil system is all hooked up.



So is the E46 fuel filter assembly and a temporary fuel-pump situation (a Wabro).


Shortened driveshaft is in. Shifter assembly all sorted.


I hadn't actually re-programmed the ECU with my tune (which includes EWS delete) so I did that.

Then we put fuel in and tried to start it. After a few attempts (noticing a harness plug had not been plugged in) we got it to fire...for about 2 seconds. Then it quit. It was late on Friday so instead of fighting with it then, they're going to figure out what's wrong this week.

Assuming they do so, and I can get there to witness it running, then this part of the project is DONE and the car will be coming home for me to disassemble it for body/paint.

Hence my thread on buying a car trailer...

Congrats, if the air box vibrates much those welds are going to tear out of the thin sheet metal wheel well.

Time to get serious. Phase 3 - "Tear down to Bare Metal / Prep for Paint" starts in the next few weeks.

I had a bunch of very important work to do at work today. Instead of doing that, I built a complete schedule for Minerva.

This plan is built assuming I will be doing the most of the non-paint/body work (one guy, very slow), full time (work week). That won't be the case as I plan on using my check-book wrench for a lot of the work at this point. Would love folks who've done ground-up builds before to look at this and tell me what I'm missing or where I'm way off.

I couldn't zoom in enough to read any of your schedule. It's okay though because I know nothing about undertaking a project like this . I will however be following your progress.

Hey since you're doing a ground up restoration you may as well go with an 89 e24 blade fuse box conversion. I want to do it but am a bit discouraged because I don't want to agitate my electrical gremlins. But the conversion could fix them as well.

BTW I've been meaning to move my photos over to Flicker from photobucket but my electrical gremlins have been keeping me busy. lol

I am actually, seriously, considering it. All I've heard is "ooh, that will be hard". But I've studied the wiring diagrams and I don't think it will be.

Been meaning to post a WTB ad for an e24 wiring harness and box...
