yea there i idle screw located right below the throttle body that ties into the a cold idle boost valve. I have ms1 on the vehicle, under the idle control menu it set to B&G on and off. I dont have a idle control like most m30 engines. The idle is set at 1100rpms with the set screw, if it drops below that is starts surging. Never could figure it out.

Lets have a look at your maps. Its probably in there.

I love worldpac! Just ordered all gaskets, new cap and rotor, new water pump, and the remaining coolant hoses I haven't replaced. I can't believe how cheap it was. Less than half of what my price would have been with my employee discount at BMW.

Gaskets and hoses are probably okay but I would have gone with BMW on the pump and ignition components.

I've used a ton of caps, rotors, and water pumps through world pac.

It's a Bosch cap and rotor. I forgot the brand of the water pump but it's OE (BMW uses a few manufacturers for them). If they fail it has a 12 month warranty. And they were less than half price of my discount.

The BMW waterpump has a lifetime warranty. Hard to beat that. I've heard some bad things about Bosch caps and rotors recently. One guy had them actually grenading on his engine, as in more than once. I believe Bremi is OEM.

There are also different grades of replacement parts. A lot of what is advertised as OEM is usually not the same quality as the original part, assuming its even from the same manufacturer.

I'm just saying. The BMW stuff is not a bad way to go at cost +10. I'm still running the same waterpump in the turbo car I got from BMW back in 2006 FWIW.

Bosch is an OEM for all ignition components. Bremi is OE for cap, rotor, and wires IIRC.

BMW water pumps having a lifetime warranty is incorrect. If that were true I would be replacing a ton of water pumps as goodwill warranty at work. And I install customer pay ones at least one every two weeks. Most parts have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Also, my dealership is cost + 20. It adds up quick. Not trying to start a argument. I'll try the cap and rotor. Every manufacturer has components that fail pre maturely. Ive installed new BMW parts that were DOA. It happens. Worst case scenario I'm out $40.

BMW also uses bremi for ignition coils. Even on the N52's.

Don't know what to tell you. I sold BMW parts for six years. Replacement water pumps, mufflers, shocks, alternators and other select parts are covered under lifetime warranty. At least they were as of 2009.

Just asked the parts manager here. He said none of our parts have or have ever had a lifetime warranty. Maybe its a market to market thing?

He either doesn't know or doesn't want to deal with parts warranty claims.

That depends on the dealer. We were able to get front counter warranty stuff taken care of. I don't know if it was done as a goodwill kind of thing or what but we got it done.

For a guy that works at the dealer its a non issue.

Well I learned something new today! I've been with them 8 years and never knew that existed. I guess it's something most of the parts managers don't like to spread around.

All worldpac parts are is re stickered oem parts most of the time. Even with my BMW employee parts I dont get a warranty. I usually have to rebuy the item.

Agreed. Though they pay decent when thy are customer pay. I just hate how damn messy they are.

just did 3 in the last week. 2 warranty 1 c-pay. Lake Bates always emerges.

Just got back from towing the car to the shop. Gonna pull the motor tomorrow and pull the head off. I will post pics of the progress .

So we started working on it today at around 8am. Here is a shot of the engine bay.



Pulled the transmission out in about a hour. Had the motor out about a hour after that.



I was going to use our old school BMW engine stand here at the shop. However, we didn't have the right mounts for a M30 so I had to run over to harbor freight and pick up a cheap engine stand. Luckily it was one sale.





Got the motor stripped down shortly after. I don't think the chain guides are supposed to look like this!







I can still see crosshatching in the cylinder walls!



Here is a shot of the head.



Cleaned up the block really well and hit it with some gloss black spray paint. It's still drying in this pic.



And thats all for now. Started cleaning around 3:30 because i made a huge mess, lol. I'm gonna send the head out Monday and install some new valve guide seals. MLS and ARP's should be here by the end of next week (Thanks Todd!). In the mean time ill be cleaning and painting everything before it gets reinstalled.

Our dealer was so slow at one point, had I not been rebuilding my engine there would have been no BMWs in the shop. I only worked there a year before I had enough of the shitty service, shitty management and most importantly; shitty hours.

I've been in the dealership game for 8 years with BMW. I did the independent thing for a while, but I prefer the hours at the dealership. Luckily I have found a place that I enjoy working at. And it's a nice perk that they let me bring my projects to work on. My last dealer in Orlando would never let me reseal my engine at work. It was a pita just to work on my own car there.
