The thing I loved about running 4.10 gears in my M30-powered E34 Touring was that when you were commuting, it drove normally and got roughly the same fuel economy because you were pretty much always 1 gear higher than normal. And when you wanted to come out of the hole hard, BAM. Even my NA B35 moved that 3700 lb beast around in an entertaining way with those gears.
Of course the disadvantage was that I was gear-limited to a top speed of about 120 mph (didn't want to run it to 6k in 5th for fear of the rocker arms).

Hmm, and here I am running a 3.23 in the touring with the M30. I should have left the 4.10 in there.Mr Project wrote:The thing I loved about running 4.10 gears in my M30-powered E34 Touring was that when you were commuting, it drove normally and got roughly the same fuel economy because you were pretty much always 1 gear higher than normal. Ah well the 3.23 will be better with the turbo anyway.
