It's really just about Hot Rodding and continuing to have fun with car. Ultimately, hanging with friends and building stuff is the real fun.

Purchase an engine today. SPECs for LSX geeks:
2007 L33
all aluminum 5.3L with 243 heads (same as LS6)
310hp/335tq in stock truck trim
Removed from 2007 GMC 1500 truck with 80k miles. The L33 in 2007 was called the Vortec HO.
9.9CR should be perfect for low boost madness!
I'll start a build once I tow the car up to Sweeney's in 3 or 4 weeks.

I'll have complete control over the factory ecu with HPTuners. Safe rpm is 6500. I'll probably install ARP rod bolts when I change the oil pan to be safe.
My research shows 315lbs vs 390lbs in long block with no accessories. So will gain a little weight.
I think the t56 is 50lbs heavier than the G260. At least all the weight will be better balance and with a lower center of gravity.

No issues with the crank. This motor will take 75rwhp per hole stock with better fasteners.

LM7 (in everything else) is an iron block.
L33 (2005-07 Silverado SS) and LM4 (2003-04 Trailblazers and others) are aluminum block.
Are you going to stick with DBW or going manual? Have you decided on your intake and therefore your accessory drive(s) yet? I've thought that it would be nice to get a decent cam to move the powerband up a bit to emulate more of a higher-revving Euro-style V8. You won't even need to change the heads.
I've also thought the weight of an M30 at 315lb. seems suspect, as I've always thought that it seemed heavier. I've got a 3-liter block sitting on the side of the house and it is one heavy mofo. Maybe Todd can be the final arbiter and weigh this mess?
Look up Vorshlag's E30 swap with a 5.3 iron block. They have pics of them weighing the motors and trannies somewhere, although they were comparing it to an M20. For what you are getting with the swap, the weights, IMHO, aren't that big of a deal. Plus the distribution is set quite a bit closer to the center of the car.
LS1Tech.com has more info on this stuff than is possible to read in a lifetime.

I am feeling greedy so this is my current plan.
LS6 cam
LS6 valve springs
BBK or LS6 intake
Conventional Throttle body
2000 F Body wiring harness, ecu and accessory package
GM MLS HGs
ARP Head Studs and rod bolts
and boost.

Todd, if you plan to do track events (the non straightline kind) I would suggest a baffled oil pan. The ls motors I have seen will run dry on track events doing high bank left turns. Especially oval racing, even though I doubt you plan to do that, it's something to keep in mind. I don't think their oil pans are baffled at all. My friend lost a healthy ls1 because of this.

Sorry I missed this one.
I've been dreaming of this one for a while. And we have that Z28 collecting dust. Shoulda seen the wife's face when I asked how long it was going to just sit in the garage. (She won't admit it, but seeing as that car is the most uncomfortable vehicle ever built, I suspect it will not be going anywhere.) It might have been the gleam in my eye that gave away my thoughts. All she said was, "No."

This is great news. LS based motors can get sh!tloads of power with minor add-ons. I have come from the e28 533 to a LS2 based platform. So much cheaper to work on and get power out of.
For those that are looking for a turbo conversion in addition to ls1 swap. You better get some $$$ thrown at your drivetrain. That amount of torque on these older parts is going to lead to a ton of blow ups. Invest that money into the drivetrain components to handle stock ls1 power consistently then add power.
A blown ls1/2/3 can easily make 500rwhp 500 torque. Have to get the car in a state that can handle that...because that is the min in regards to FI for this motor.

I can't help but note that the clutch appears to be larger than the normal available space in an e28 transmission tunnel.
Will the car be getting modified to make space?

Day 1
Travel 140 miles to Sweeney's.
Test fitting with foam block.
Stripped all the truck parts off the L33.
Ugly on the outside but like new where it counts!
So great to be back at the lair building an e28! Even better this time with Harper old enough to help out!

It's available from Summit, Jegs etc. It has removable heads. You can bolt everything to the block like a real block. It's very useful.
