Got a bit of a funny question.

I picked up a holset hx 50of a diesel boat. It has been fully reco'ed and looks brand new. The serial # is 3535463 which was originaly on a 500 hp Iveco marine diesel.

I plan to use this in my 635csi with an m90 engine.

The thing with this is that it has a marine turbine side with intergrated water jacket. Its very heavy. but the actual turbine is nice and small and i would like to use it.

Does anyone know if its safe to use these turbos with out the water jacket plumbed in or if i can grind some of the water jacket of with out comprimising the turbo?

I have been looking for other turbine covers but havent had any luck in this part of the world so at the moment i am kind of stuck with this one.

Cheers,

Douglas

The water jacket is solely intended to reduce the risk of fire when installed in a confined, enclosed space like a boat. Should be no problem running it without.

Thanks Dan!

I was wondering if the turbine housing itself would be thiner due to it having two layers. If that wasnt the case then I could just cut the outer layer off and save a lot of weight.

Cheers,
