Taking the advice of you all I purchased and installed a set of 42lb injectors and learned a TON about setting them up and adjusting my tune to work well with them. I finally figured out my hot start issue (needed to play with the MAT correction table) and my cold start issue (needed to increase the warm up enrichment). I still have a few other things to sort out but for the most part i'm proud to say that the car is starting and running better and smoother than it ever did with Motronic even in the cold / hot and my AFR's are very close to my targets even under boost.

My next hurdle is to make sure my ignition map is safe and optimized, can you all point me to some resources for learning how to tune this map?

The original map was something from another M30, but it had a B35 head and some other modifications. I had to pull some timing out at boost to prevent knocking, but that may have been caused by poor injector flow pattern. Regardless, I want to learn what i'm doing before I advance the timing again.

I would start by wiping that map out and ripping one off of someone else on the board. That map looks like someone generated a table with Megasquirt. Not even close.

I am now super excited to get the correct map in. Does turbocharging require a different map or is the stock map for the engine what I want?

If you can find stock timing use it but you'll need to figure out what to use for 100kpa+.

Go on e30tech you'll find some good maps for the m20.
M30 it's more or less the same.


This map is a good one you can tweak later.
It's a very safe tune you'll probably want to put in some timing 2deg at a time.

Your idle should be way smoother now. Change the timing
so you get the strongest vacuum. Should be like 36kpa if your engine is strong.

How much are you boosting on that crazy map?
What do you see for idle kpa?

I ran it this morning, it felt really good with no detonation under boost. Idle was around 40kpa. Is this basically a stock B34 table with extra blocks added for boost?

That map was made by Ixer for an m20.

Is 40kpa tuned? Not bad.
My old m20 was like 47kpa (trashed)

Yeah, I played with the idle advance timing a bit today and saw 35 @ idle and it was still idling smooth.

Heres a fairly recent map of mine. You can pick up better fuel economy and response if you dial up the ignition advance to help make power before the motor starts to climb into the powerband. There is more to it than just manifold vacuum and engine speed. You will not find a factory ignition map that looks anything like the maps posted by some of these other folks. They run alright, it just takes more throttle/higher MAP to keep the car going down the road or up a hill.

I like that, anything I can do to pick up a little more power off boost is good and makes the car drive more like a modern car.

Are you all using the idle advance feature?
