How about a discussion about something other than the typical turbo upgrades. Here are some ideas I have thought would be cool to do some day.

I'm considering a turbo eta build in the future. A GT2560R spools right about now on a 2.7l M20. I don't know what kind of boost the 82-87 eta would tolerate without detonation though.
I would expect better city and highway mileage. The NA eta seems to have to work too hard to get up to speed and to maintain a high speed cruise.

id like to see something with VG turbos, once upon a time i had plans to use a he351vgt holset on my old b35 powered shark but never got past mock up, when i was playing with that turbo nobody had figured out how to run the servo and they were dirt cheep on ebay as "defective" take offs from dodges when they were having soot problems, got mine for $125 delivered.
i had planned on using a linear actuator on the rack driven by a couple Hobbs switches (found a actuator/controller combo that you could set 3 preset positions for under $80), its been a while but i think it had a range of 7cm to 21 or 24cm via sliding ring instead of vane's like a Garrett
couple pics of the monster on a modified 745 manifold, i milled out the opening to match and the odd flange of the holset was close enough to be made to work
its huge and would've needed about 1" sectioned out of the top of the frame rail on my e12 to clear

I have run a whole bunch of LNF/LHU GM 2l engine at work. They are amazing little engines. We have been running them over very demanding LSPI ceignition testing where we have seen peak cylinder pressures over 300 bar during an LSPI event. I accidentally killed one on the dyno, but it was an ECM software problem that caused the mishap. I have thought numerous times that it would make a great project car engine.

m70 swap
I researched this swap quite extensively. Check out choiceautowiring.com- the guy who runs it has alot of experience converting the m70 to a stand-alone system. He reverses the manifolds by swapping them side to side and ditches the electronic side of the throttle bodies and converts them to cable actuation. He builds his own harness and uses all GM sensors and a common GM computer. He also ditches the BMW distributors and runs 6 GM coils. The harness runs $1250 and comes with complete instructions. The only reason I scrapped the idea is the scarcity of a manual that bolts up to it. A T56 six speed can be made to work but requires LOTS of machining and a custom bellhousing...

Those throttles are really the only reason I have had any trouble with M70s. I will eventually do something with mine. I've been looking at motorcycle throttles to possibly do a 12 throttle setup. Already have the 6 speed, too. I also really want to put the supercharger from a Caddy STS-V on an M6x. It runs upside down and has an integral 4 tube Laminova W/A intercooler. Port spacing is close, but some serious adapter work would need to be done because of the bolt spacing.

Or you could use proven bootable rotary power fits beautifully light and more then enough power and a huge parts base. My build is expected to reliably exceed 400 on e85. S5 full P"n"P and street port custom manifolds running a vg30 turbo mushimoto EVO intercooler.

If so I am seriously considering turbocharging my Alfa Milano with the Busso 2.5V6. The engine bay is tight , as in very tight, so I would steal the spare tire well in the trunk. The turbo could be very small, therefore eliminating lag. The reason for the small turbo is the trans-axle turns to glass over 300 rwhp. Besides, 250hp or so would turn that light little thing into a race car.
I guess I need to learn to read a turbo chart first off.
