So frustrated with MS1. Anyone GOOD near Vegas?

Post by DangerWillRbnsn »

Originally I bought an MS1 from another board that was setup for Ford EDIS. I tried to modify my MS1 myself for the BMW VR setup, add Boost control, and a few other goodies - but got fedup and found that Symtec Labs would do everything I wanted for $120... so I sent it to them.

Got it back and went to work making the adaptor - which is just a gutted stock 179 box. I just went with Brad's diagram, pin to pin as shown. Looks pretty good, all soldered and shrink wrapped.

Now I've just plugged into the e28, and INSTANTLY the fuel pump kicks on. No key-on or anything, it just runs the pump from the moment it's plugged in. Well that sucks - but I figured hey - no smoke, lets crank it over. So the car cranks, but I have no start (not surprising).

Anyway - I'm just tired and beefed about it. Wondering if anyone is local, or NEAR local that would be willing to take a look and help me out... even if I have to pay for it. I just work too much, and I want to boost it already! My brain is great for mechanical, not so much with electrical.

So - anyone? Even a phone call might help.

lets start with basics
when you turn key on you should get a flash on the first led of ms,gas pump runs, injectors get + power(they're triggered with ground).
As you start cranking car first led should flicker from vr pulse. You should have power to ignition coil and if you have pulse you should have spark. you should also have pulse at injectors, test with a noid light to see.
good luck

I would give Devin over at Southwest Bimmers a call, they've been doing some work with standalones and Devin is pretty bright with stuff like that. They've recently built a couple turbo M50/S50 E30s and are really familiar with them. Just tell them Ian sent you.
