FWIW, BMW marine engines are what would have been euro spec motors in automotive applications. Most parts are readily available through marine dealers.

What is the difference between a Marine M30 and a Automotive M30?

Wow, an incredibly overpriced 2.8 M30. Why do you think that these were the same as Euro spec engines?

ain't a set of bearings and piano tops about half of that even with the machine work?

I downloaded the parts lists for the M10 and M30 marine engines and ran several of the PN's through Realoem. Pistons/rings come up as euro only, as do several other parts. It makes sense, too. Marine engines of that vintage were not subject to emissions.

If you consider the cost of pistons (even ebay finds), block machining, getting a crank checked out, bearings etc. it would be hard to get away for much less than the BIN price of $1100. It is also (for all intents and purposes) brand new. Hell, what's a new oil pump run these days?

It would be a great base for a fun FI track motor but the last thing I need right now is another motor .

FWIW, the marine M10 was rated at 130hp (not sure if that's taken at the crank or prop) and has dual carbs.

But its still a 2.8 M30. It only puts down about as much power as the US B34, so what would be the point? Start with a 3.4 or 3.5 and go from there.

Plus compression is 9.3:1, which I guess is close to the B35, but I don't know. I think its interesting.

BMW marine also shows a CR of 8.2:1.The PN for the head and cam don't come up so I'm guessing the head's different.

The only reason it got my interest is that I'm looking for a b28 block for another project. I don't need any of the other stuff but for the right person it might be worth looking at.

I'd mentioned that I'd be willing to go pick the thing up in Int'll Falls. $450 to ship that thing is steep.
