hello everyone, let me star by saying im looking into finding info for a friend i will be helping with a build. he has a 1983 bmw 533i, the plan is to run a turbo. according to him the computer in his car cannot be tuned so would mean a turbo cant be run on it. he believes his computer is a 008. is there a computer from a later year that can be swapped over, and what do you guys recommend as far as internals, heads, cams etc. thanks for any advice.

The stock computer will work up to a certain boost pressure. You need a rising rate fuel pressure regulator to add fuel. This device boosts fuel pressure as soon as the turbo starts to make boost which increases the amount of fuel delivered for any given injector pulse width. The higher the boost pressure the higher the fuel pressure. This works very well for low boost systems and fairly well for moderate amounts of boost. If you want to run a lot of boost on the stock computer you need larger injectors, which means you're going to have to screw around with the AFM to make it run right off boost. As far as ignition timing, the stock timing is usually acceptable to at least 8-10 psi.

My original turbo system used the stock computer, AFM and injectors with just a rising rate regulator. That sucker ran great.

Was that on stock internals, and what kind of power where you putting down. Also was that a custom turbo or a kit. Thanks
