533i grinding sound when clutch pedal depressed

Finally got the M30B35 into the 533. While everything was apart I put in a new clutch kit *Sachs KF13902* and a re-surfaced m5 flywheel with a step on the surface, though it's like a hundreth of a mm shy of spec. I buttoned it all up and now there is a grinding noise when the clutch pedal is fully depressed.
If I don't push the clutch pedal all the way down there is no sound. Also the transmission seems to function properly if I don't dip the pedal to the ground. Gear engagement is fine as is drive-train engagement when clutch is release in gear.
Would this be consistent with a bad release bearing? I'm just a bit at a loss as I was extra careful to do everything as per the Bentley but now I just want to drive the thing.
Any advice on what I'd have to do to get this sorted?
Here is a video that demonstrates that sound:

I had something like that one time with a 533 pressure plate and a 535 disc. The flywheel shouldn't be part of the problem since it doesn't move in and out, but the pressure plate does, or at least part of it. Doesn't sound like your problem, with the parts you installed, but...
My short term solution was to remove the clutch pedal stop and put in a thicker one. Long term of course I got matching parts in there, but I really didn't have time right away.

Thanks so much Mike. I just threw a couple more floor mats in and it seems to be fine.
Could this be a result of not enough step on the flywheel? Sorry if that's a dumb question.
I guess I'll be pulling the tranny when I get it back to the shop. This swap has been kicking and screaming the whole way.
I'll compare throwout bearing lengths and check to see what's going on. The clutch disc came in a kit with the pressure plate and throwout bearing. I guess the wrong stuff could have come in the box. It was about 3am when it was thrown in and I didn't check part numbers on the individual items.

No, I think the more the step the more likely it would be to be a problem, you would need more TO bearing travel to release it. But the dumb question is the one not asked, so no worries.

I’m interested to hear if this translates to any feel though the pedal. Do you feel any vibration through the clutch pedal itself when this noise is happening?
I’m having a hard time visualizing the mechanism, but if the noise increases with relation to rpm, it sounds like the clutch arm is making contact with some part of the rotating clutch assembly, or the throw out bearing is entirely binding at full extension. My money is on the fork touching something that’s rotating, acting as a brake (would explain why the car can be stalled or this way)

Shit, forgot about this thread. Got this sorted too.
Yeah you could MOST certainly feel it in the pedal.
Dropped the tranny and pin holding the fork had pivoted pushing the fork crooked into the pressure plate. Straightened the pin, shimmed the slave for added measure and added a clutch stop and she's golden.

Nice investigative work. Glad to hear that’s sorted.
My 535 is giving me vibrational feedback through the clutch pedal over 3000 rpm. In my endless (and misguided) pursuit of perfection I replaced the clutch. Really I was aiming to replace the throw out bearing but y’know, “while you’re in there”
Bottom line is it didn’t fix it. I’m sure I’ll have a thread for that here sooner than later

Did you ever figure this out?
