Curious...assuming you wanted to set a reserve, and BAT didn't accept it, did they say why not? Anything you'd be willing to share about that would be greatly appreciated.

I tried twice to list my HP2 Megamoto and it got rejected both times, and both times I politely asked why it was rejected, and never got a response. The second time I listed it, I even gave it a ridiculously low reserve and it still got bonked. They've never listed an HP2 Megamoto ( they're rare in the U.S. ). Maybe they just hate them!

I ended up selling the bike on Cycle Trader for $3,500 more than that ridiculously low price.

P.S. I have successfully listed and sold a car on BAT; the only other vehicle I submitted to them for sale.

I didn’t request a reserve. I went in from the start with no reserve. The email I received back was that they thought it was an interesting car and a good fit for their platform.

I don’t know the value of the car and this is probably the best way to find out, so it will sell for what it sells for to the highest bidder.

BaT prefers no-reserve auctions and makes a good case for it to sellers. Seems to work.

Don't feel bad, they wouldn't accept the BMW 1-series coupes for years, until they saw an interest in them elsewhere and how the prices were increasing. Now even a lowly 128i stick has hit over $20k there.

I believe I have seen a total of one (1) other 1982 E28, but yes, never "like this one".

Pretty sure there'll be someone who likes the paint scheme and the wheels, I only wonder what was the thought process that resulted in that decision, and even more- how was Magnus Walker persuaded to paint his Porsche 924 with a similar livery (per Chris K's comment on BaT)

Believe it or not, there are people that like the wheels and like the two-tone paint. Plus with it all being done in-period, it's a bit of a time capsule in that respect.

The way I look at it, wheels can be changed and the car can easily go back to all Polaris should one be inclined. At the end of the day, it's a Polaris E28 with a cherry red leather interior and that's a stunning combo. The original owners used it as a show car for their business, so given the period, I don't think it's all that unusual, but from what I can tell, the paintwork was done well, even if it is showing it's age. Front and rear glass removed, all of the bumpers and trim removed. Having lived with the car for a while and seeing it every day, I have grown to actually like the two-tone. I haven't driven the car anywhere where someone hasn't wanted to talk about it or asked me to roll down my window at a light - even as I was driving the car home from the previous owners' house.

The car can always be painted, so why not have some fun with it as it sits?

I think it is a really cool car and color combo.

regardless of what anyone might think of the exterior color scheme and the wheels, it's truly one of a kind and is a neat survivor, with a few period correct mods. the story behind it is, arguably, the coolest part of the car. hopefully it's next steward continues to keep taking care of it.

Haha I *WANT* the lowly 128i manual convertible. It's just fine and fast enough. But alas, also on the #PriceCreep.

I didn't know what to expect for this car, which is why I went this direction. Obviously, paint, stereo and wheels together is a market limiter. Would the car have sold for more in Polaris with stock wheels and radio? Hard to say. I do feel it was an objectively better car than others that had sold for more money (particularly the rusty burgundrot one) and it was interesting ending two days right after another two-tone 528e that sold for more. I'm not disappointed with the sale price and I'm hopeful it found a good home but I was hoping for a Radwood hipster totally taken by this particular car and what made it unique (aside from it being a 5-speed '82 which is it's own level of unique). From the sound of things so far, that's not the case.
