Taking apart coil wire

Post by jimoreno »

Ok guys now that I'm getting closer to trying to get the engine running I realized that I need a longer ignition coil wire. I got a generic MSD V8 single replacement wire that comes with 2 sets of boots and of course none of them work with the BMW cap or coil.
How do I remove the terminals from my shorter B34 coil wire so I can cut the generic wire and use them?
I hope this is possible but I have turned the boots while pulling them to no avail.
Worst case scenario, anyone happens to have a B35 ignition coil lead?

I don't think they're intended to be taken apart. But at this point if you're set on using the MSD parts you could destructively take one or more apart to see. Among other things I think the terminals are either crimped or welded on, plus I believe they have a resistor in them. Aftermarket solutions are out there, Rockauto has a ton but I don't know if they'll fit the BMW cap.

Thanks. I found some Beru boots on Ebay and ordered 2 of them so we'll see if they can be made to work. I bought the MSD because it was the only single long wire posible solution that I found locally.
