WTB 528e Driveshaft near CT

Post by williamtii »

Hi Everyone,

Glad the board is back up and running! I am in need of a good used manual driveshaft for a 528e. It looks like they came in 2 different flavors and I need one from a car built prior to April of 1986.

Does anyone within a couple hours drive of Connecticut have one available? I would rather swap in another than take the car out of service to be rebuilt.

Thanks,
-William

Well it looks like 535 shafts are interchangeable:

I've put a G80 driveshaft up to a G265/6 and vice versa but I can't tell you more than that. What may be helpful to know is that the rear section of all E28 driveshafts is the same, the front is what's specific to the gearbox. If you spend an hour in realoem comparing driveshafts you may find lengths listed. I know the G260/6 is listed as 1566mm, and IIRC the G280 is about 11mm shorter so there's enough makeup in the splines to accommodate the difference. If you can figure out the length of what you're looking for you may be able to find a fit. I have a half dozen driveshafts here in PA (and come to CT frequently) but I stopped caring what they were from and resorted to measurements. You would want to have any of them at least checked out and probably rebuilt if you were interested. I had a 535 driveshaft redone for about $425 in NJ in 2023, but that would eliminate the downtime while it was being done..
