Clear Oil Service indicator

Post by topher800 »

Since the search results are not yet available, can someone refresh me on resetting the oil service indicator. I believe there was a paper clip option between two of the OBDC holes.....

Got it. Pins 1 & 7. Used an RCA cable. Pin 1 is in the center. And pin 7, looking north from the flat edge, is at 1 o'clock (first hole).

Connect wire, turn key to run, without starting. "For the inspection light, hold the key there for 7 seconds - 11 seconds for the oil service light".

Looking for a cover. Why does it look like 12521724690 is for the 20 pin port?

cause it is. you want 12521286052 if you don't have the 20-port, which did not show up for my 85 which uses an 052 so I used a different car to find the part.

Should a 1987 have a 20 pin or a 15 pin port?

In (US versions) 533i, 535i and M5 the 20 pin port is possible (according RealOem), but also the 15 pin port...Have you a picture of your port???
