The Donate page, originally drafted by Jeremy has some good verbage regarding the principles (tenets) by which the board is run:
I would like to take this a step further to solidify how the board is run, to ensure there is no ambiguity. To do this, I propose the following Tenets (see https://blog.kindel.com/2020/02/10/tenets/):MyE28.com operates under the moderately simple mantra of providing an open space for enthusiasts to congregate, share ideas and advice, and just generally have a good time. As a part of the Internet, the website must be maintained and looked after, and some entity must provide us with server space in order to provide this forum to you.
This costs money. The manpower used for our (admittedly limited) moderation and forum maintenance is entirely volunteer and unpaid, but we still have to pay for the Internet services (compute, storage, network, etc...). We could probably use advertising to pay those bills, but nobody likes looking at advertisements and conflicts of interest inevitably arise when products are discussed in the forum.
We will endeavor to always keep the forum free for you to use, but if you enjoy your time here, find the information here useful, and/or find the insight of fellow board members indispensable, please contribute towards the site's continued operation.
MyE28.com Tenets (unless you have better ones...)
- Open to all. MyE28 operates under the moderately simple mantra of providing an open space for enthusiasts to congregate, share ideas and advice, and just generally have a good time.
- Moderate Moderation. Sadly, the Internet is full of jerks and trolls. This means MyE28 must have moderation. We call our volunteer mods Beamters.
- We Love You Long Time. MyE28 exists to serve the community of E28 enthusiasts and for no other reason. Where governance is required, we strive to keep it minimal. We invest in infrastructure that ensures no one individual has undue authority or power and no one individual getting hit by an asteroid can cause MyE28 to die.
- Donations Pay the Bills. We endeavor to keep MyE28 free for members of the community. The manpower used for moderation and forum maintenance is entirely volunteer and unpaid, but we still have to pay for the Internet services (compute, storage, network, etc...). We refuse to use advertising or other means of monetization.
