HELP: WTB-M5 oil filter head

Post by gray635 »

Guys:

I took my M5 in for what should have been a simple oil service last Thursday. In the process of reinstalling the oil filter housing into the oil filter head, the (very experienced) tech somehow cracked the lip of the oil filter head.
:bawl:

The part no. is 11421716592. This is NOT the same part as on the M30 motor. The price for a new oil filter head is about $500.  (Welcome to the wonderful world of M parts).

The shop is trying to do the right thing about fixing my car. We have been unable to find a good used part and at this point the shop is talking about having "an excellent fabricator" fix the crack in the oil filter head by welding it. I am a little concerned about such a repair.

Any suggestions or thoughts on this problem? If anybody has access to a S38 oil filter head and oil filter housing (#11421274544) please contact me.

I would REALLY APPRECIATE any help with this. :thanks:

I have one Mike, from an s38 engine. It has the oil pressure switch mounted in it. PM me if you need it...I would just need a comparable M30 unit to replace it...
