Rayjay turbo kit from a E12

I found a e12 with a rayjay turbo kit installed. Unfortunately the car hasnt been started in almost 15 years. The car has a lot of aftermarket goodies including aftermarket recaro's, gotti wheels, aftermarket front valance, etc. It's in excellent shape except for the trunk floor and lip where the seal mounts. There is a leak in the roof where the car is currently stored :(

I was wondering if this turbo kit would fit on my 85 535i? I did a search but couldnt find much info on this kit. I know he is looking to part the car out, or possibly sell it whole. Either way i figured it was a neat car and would like to get more info on that turbo kit.

Thanks!

i don't see why it wouldn't fit, for the most part a m30 is a m30, a slight adjustment of the plumbing and maybe a modern turbo and management system

Rayjay didn't make a turbo kit but some very early kit makers used Rayjay turbos. The manifold may be usuable but the turbo and WG are likely junk.

This is very likely. Even if it's usable, it's so old school tech that it'll have less than stellar results. Modern turbos are light years better than stuff from that generation.

Its all garbage. Start with new parts. Don't waste your time with 30year old turbo parts.

Back in those days, they didn't have the proper equipment to
test the aerodynamics of blade shapes or even knew what aerodynamics were. It was all guess work, and went with what
seemed to work. If I recall when they were develeping that generation turbo (1st) they haven't even discovered germs then. Look it up.

Doctors would still use snakes and leaches back then.
That rayjay turbo is terrible today, even if it was mint condition.

Good advice. Wish I had listened to it about 3 years ago.

What year is the car and what color is the carpet?

It's a 75. The interior is black and in amazing condition. I think the dash is crack free too.

How could anyone have more information than you? Post some pictures. Rayjay was a manufacturer of turbos not turbo kits.

I just bought the car. The original owner died and his estate sold the car. I don't have much info on it. I was hoping someone who knew the car knew some history on it.

That looks like it uses a 7th injector in the intake manifold. If so, it may be set up similar to my Callaway kit. More info on page 1 of my 633CSi build thread in the FI section of this forum.

It's the very uncommon and almost useless bae Kit. Alan Goidmans e28 535i made 197rwhp at 7psi before we fixed it.

holy crap that is one weird looking turbo kit. I'd get that working just as a novelty at this point.

I just bought a car with a very similar setup and story. It is weird but I think its pretty cool. Mine came from a local lady that lost her husband and needed to sell also. This car had not been registered since 2001 in Arizona. I suspect that's when it caught fire and the PO parked it in the garage, where it sat until a year ago. My car looks to have the same BAE/rajay setup. Mine doesn't have that weird looking BOV/bypass valve between the turbo and intake. Same weird wheels.

I would like to put a modern T4 turbo on this car and do a BEGI fuel enrichment setup. That Rajay turbo is junk and its pretty hard (if not impossible) to find a rebuild kit I bet.

This is what it looked like when it came out of the garage.
