Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
I have one of Peter Florence's adapters and didn't have to buy the M1.3 harness to run megasquirt: https://www.flickr.com/photos/128089897 ... 892422156/
I have a contact who builds PNP Megasquirt boards for E30's and was wondering if he could build an adapter for M1.0 users. You'd still need the E34 TPS and crank trigger wheel/sensor. You could use the stock AFM/IAT or add an outside IAT sensor like the GM one.
I was looking to gauge interest to see if anybody would be interested in buying a M1.0 adapter for megasquirt. This would be eligible for use with M30B32/B34 or S38B35 if different injectors were used.
The kit would come with wiring to solder as well as the harness adapter from Megasquirt to a M1.0 adapter.
Is anybody interested in this? I'd need 4 more people on a group buy to get it going. Pricing is coming.

Interested...dependent on pricing.
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
I will probably buy one if you need help funding it.

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
This could be used in any of the e30 and e28 M20b27 engines that use the motronic 1.0/1.1 35 pin '173' ecu. There could be a market on r3vlimited as well.
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
It's going to be the same as what Peter made? Interested.
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Small update,
The builder is SSSquid Tuning and he got his hands on my spare M30 059 ECU.
He has developed the bare board to allow some soldering and building your own adapter board.
I am trying to find out if the board is designed to mount inside a M1.0 ECU case and how that all works. I was also going to ask if he would be able to supply the female DB37 connector, pins, and connector housing for the Megasquirt side.
Right now you can buy the bare board for $45. I suspect if he adds the DB37 and other items they will appear for a few more bucks as drop down options.

See his website here: http://sssquid.com/v2/shop/megasquirt/m ... egasquirt/This board is designed in-house and 100% made in the USA!
The Motronic 1.0 Breakout Board is perfect for those that want to put megasquirt into their vehicle, and want to do a quality job of it. Designed to solder right into the stock M1.0 harness adapter and includes two solder areas for each Motronic pin. It also includes spots for two extra ignition drivers, two extra 3-pin 2.54mm pitch connections, and a prototyping area with inlaid, clearly marked connections to make your project as easy and accessible as possible. Two mounting holes match directly to the harness adapter, and two more are option and for use in our MegaSSSquirt cases..
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Awesome.
If he ever offers it with the connector and mounting pieces like diyautotune does for the bosch 55 pin (they sell for $89.00) I'd be in for one.

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
What would you guy think about an adapter that connected to the factory 35 pin engine harness connector? I thought this was going to be plug and play adapter, not a circuit that requires soldering and manual wiring.
It would be a male 35 pin connector wired to a female 55 pin so you could connect a 55 pin MS unit directly to the car and all you would need as mentioned above would be a vTPS, a vacuum line, and an e34 CPS and toothed harmonic balancer. Then you could run this unit to tune your car. No DB37 cable required.
https://www.diyautotune.com/product/diy ... mbled-kit/
The benefit to this is no soldering required and it is totally reversible (assuming you used the e34 auto vTPS).

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Like that option
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
help me here - so this would plug into the 15 pin and then possibly allow reading of outputs via the now 35 pin? or coding?
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
He's proposing an adapter that would connect into the stock M30B34 harness ( and I think M20) and connect from the 35pin ECU to the Megasquirt DB37 box. This would mean you don't have to do a M1.3 conversion or chop up your harness. The car could be returned to the stock ECU if you ever wanted for minimal work.
I basically have one for my setup.

Not quite... My thought was a universal connector that would allow you to run a 55 pin MS unit with a 35 pin engine harness. Here is a little diagram. The benefit to the 55 pin board is it has the idle control units built in to the board so you don't need an additional idle circuit. This adapter would allow you also run a 55 pin motronic 1.3 ecu on an e30/e28 that has the 2.7i stroker engine.

I could look at connecting to a DB37 plug, but would need to buy a db37 connector and housing instead of a 55 pin. It looks like the db37 kit is cheaper but as mentioned before, not sure it comes with idle board .

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
I didn't realize this.
In that case, this may not be limited to FI users (not a lot of non-turbo guys visit this section of the forum, so you may want to post the feeler in the FS parts section of this board).
Somebody with a stock m20/M30 could simply add VR sensor, vTPS, and toothed wheel and have a Megasquirt setup for almost no wiring work. They could keep their AFM for air temp signal to make it easy and change it out later.
Estimated cost ~$750 with this adapter and a PNP MS2 unit but have room to tune for future mods or better octane.
Sounds pretty good to me as there is no easy megasquirt option for our cars unless you go M1.3 from the beginning.

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
This option would be great, especially since a lot of these pnp come with pre loaded tunes for a good starting point

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
I found some bosch style connectors and am looking into making adapter kits that would make a megasquirt install totally reversible.
This would include a 3 pin adapter that would involve no modifications to the wiring harness and allow you to connect a vTPS directly to the adapter and that directly to the stock engine harness. Totally reversible. Same thing with the AFM, a male connector that is wired in to a GM style iAT sensor connector. You could unplug the AFM, connect the GM sensor to the wiring harness without messing with any wiring. Then you could plug the AFM or original TPS back in if you ever went back to the stock ecu.

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Bought an SSSquid breakout adapter to try it out. Doesn't line up right for a plug and play set up in a gutted motronic box. When you line up the bolts the pins don't line up, at least the way I would like it too. If you line up both the bolts and the pins, the board ends up sandwiched between the plug and the case. Putting the wires in between the case and plug as well. I can't post images for some reason to better explain.

Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Interesting, I am surprised that doesn't fit correctly. As far as what I am proposing, I made a second thread in the tech talk subforum, but I updated that last night with the following post. (I received 35 pin male and 55 pin female connectors/terminals so this should work)
Great news. The connectors and pins pins came today so I was able to test fit the components together. The 55 female connector fits properly in the ecu housing and it comes with the locking metal bracket to secure it to the ECU. The female terminal pins seem to fit and slide properly over the male pins of the ECU. They appear to fit but i didn't click a pin into place because I am not sure I could remove it. The next step would be to verify the wiring pinouts and double check whether I need shielded cable for components such as the CPS. I will probably wire this first one up for the 55 pin DIY PNP unit and not the db37 connector.
Anyway, here are some photos of how it is coming together! Note the metal bracket that slides into the housing and the plastic 'hook' on the opposite side that secures it to the ecu very solid.
And here is a quick preview of how it should go together. I don't have heat shrink for the wires yet and probably won't on this prototype model. I may order some 3 pin connectors to assemble a TPS to vTPS adapter too.

I got one here myself, I'll check it out and see how it aligns.jmccrna wrote:Bought an SSSquid breakout adapter to try it out. To me, the adapter downforce22 is talking about is pretty similar to what I had originally envisioned from this SSSquid adapter board.
Re: Feeler: Motronic 1.0 35 pin adapter
Spoke with sssquid. Apparently my motronic box is one of the few where the pins are swapped. They offered to make a new board but I have a different ECU laying around with the correct pin config.
