New to me project
I was extremely lucky to have a truly epic e28 offered to me last month. Timing was right so I snatched it up. This car was developed over 13+ years by the previous Owner. It's one of the most modified/developed e28s in the USA. It's currently being propelled by a stock m30b35 with a header and MS3. That's not likely to last very long. I'll document all the mods once the car arrives in 3 or 4 weeks. It has some super cool things going on.

Holy Shit that thing is epic. Is it running a steering box or a rack? Stock suspension geometry or modified pickup points?

Yes, Bill Ruttger's car. Not replacing the motor. Just adding forced induction. I think it's a manual rack.

They are there to reduce bumpsteer on a lowered car. Although this isn't heavily lowered, I believe the rack placement increases the angle of attachment vs the box. I'd be very interested in seeing more pictures from the build, as I'd like to do this with my car eventually as well.

I don't get over this direction much these days, sorry.
The car is pretty well slammed. It can be dropped a few more inches but that's not horribly comfortable on the rumble srips or a trip into the rhubarb. It has cut struts so that plate helps keep the control arm level. If that plate were not there the control arm angle would be too pronounced and bump steer would be an issue. In its current setup the tie rod ball joint was replaced with a rod end mounted to the bottom of the steering arm, meaning the tie rod and control arm are on the same arc.
As for the rack, the one in the pics is a power rack from an e21. It rode too low in the chassis so I replaced it with a manual e21 rack and sucked it up within a mm or two from the pan. e21 power racks are rare as hens teeth, they run a different PSI than an e28 steering pump and as it turned out, the thing's light enough not to need power steering.
